The Fujitsu Lifebook B3010D from Fujitsu is not your average ultraportable laptop. It's very small, lightweight, with good performance specifications for basic productivity, but also it comes with a touch screen and stylus like what you might find on a Tablet PC. I would describe the B3010D as being a great ultraportable laptop with an excellent alternative interface to the touchpad.

the touchscreen pseudo-Tablet PC feature is pretty cool, I think knowing my laziness I'd be too tempted to skip grabbing the stylus and just use my fingers to touch the screen and quickly get the cursor moved. Maybe if you wore rubber gloves to type that would alleviate the problem with greasy fingerprints on the screen? A person doing that would look like a freak too of course, but I just can't help thinking the stylus to typing transition might be too much for my patience to do repetitively
either way, i like the fact Fujitsu is willing to be the more adventurous of any other company at the moment in regards to alternative input methods and pushing screen technology. -
Thanks for the nice review on a differnet model.

I was wondering how the typing-stylus transition would work out myself, and it's very quick and easy. The stylus slips out very smoothly, and if I want I can let it rest in its slot with the top part sticking out so that it's ready to grab. Or I'll just let the stylus rest on top of the touchpad, where it's easy to pick up.
Also, the stylus is tiny enough that I can, very naturally, hold it between my index and third fingers and simultaneously type for short periods. I tend to do this, for example, when I'm surfing the Internet and I come to a form I need to fill out.
And, using the stylus to navigate the screen is so much quicker and more efficient than on the touchpad that in the end, whatever small amount of additional time it took to take hold of the stylus is more than made up for.
By the way, I bonked this computer on the side of the bus today. Rock-solid - no scratches, damages, or malfunctioning whatsoever. Drawing is also quite a bit of fun.
Anyway, I'm definitely a fan. I bet new model, the B6000D, is fantastic. -
It would have been perfect if they had firewire on the laptop or maybe the port replicator. All the usb wires sticking out really sucks, i like how you can daisy chain with firewire and it seems like the most logical solution for a small laptop cause you wouldn't need as many ports as with USB. But then again for the size i could probably just get maybe a T4000 serie. But at almost half a kilo less, this unit is more interesting to me, even without the optical drive that i have found myself to rarely use when on the move. With the firewire, i chain up my laptop to an 200gig external hdd and dvd burner anyways so i don't really need the optical drive.
