Not to be outdone by Dell, HP, Apple or Toshiba, Fujitsu will provide an entry into the desktop replacement/multimedia notebook market with a 17" screen notebook that's stacked with features. Including a Pentium 4 Mobile 3.2GHz processor, ATI Radeon 9700 with 128MB of RAM, 17" Crystal View Screen, 100GB Hard Drive, TV Tuner built-in and instant on TV/DVD/CD and typical suave Fujitsu styling this notebook should be hot. Prices will start at $1749 and we expect a U.S. release in the next month.

This looks great if only they would do a 15" with similiar specs and an M chip for longer battery life. I have been considering the Sony s260 but Fujitsu seem to be such a great brand. Anyone know if they have plans for something that falls somewhere in-between the P7010 and this?
-
Give me UXGA or nothing. Good thing the Dell Inspiron 9200 has UXGA. I hope others follow suit ASAP.
-
Anybody know how much it probably weighs?
-
according to the japenese website its 4.5-4.6 kg or 9.9-10.1 lbs

I drink coffee while at my computer, so I actually wouldn't mind such a feature in a notebook. And if we're talking anchors, then the Acer Aspire 1700 series (http://www.zdnet.com.au/reviews/hardware/notebooks/0,39023407,20278652,00.htm) that weighs in at 16lbs (7.1kg) would be your choice (even the power adapter is said to be a brick, so that alone might work)
Seriously though, I'm not so stuck on having a Pentium M in a 17" screen notebook. You're crazy to put such a thing on your lap ever anyway, there's no other reason for such a machine other than to have it firmly planted on a desk and taken out of its place only now and again. -

So far, of all the 17" models, I am still leaning towards Compaq X6000, but still no release date[
] I'm going to have to wait forever before I can get a new computer!!!!
-
I am about ready to buy this notebook from PortableOne.com. I am upgrading to a gig of RAM and am upgrading the hard drive to a 60 gig 72000 rpm one.
But I am also considering the Gateway m675. The price is about dead even if you upgrade the memory yourself from Crucial. Does anyone have any advice/reccomendations? The Gateway has a slightly better resolution and seems to be a bit thinner, but the n6010 has a 3.2 GHz processor as opposed to the 3.0 from Gateway. This is my first time buying a new computer on my own so any help would be appreaciated! -
I'd go with the Fujitsu over Gateway. Looks to me like you'll get a lot extra, such as the instant on DVD, brighter screen, better build, faster processor and hard drive.
-
Thanks for the advice abaxter- why do you say the Fujitsu is a better build? Do they just make better laptops than Gateway? As far as the other features (the 7200 rpm hard drive, etc) I can get on both of them for about the same price. I think the instant on dvd thing only works if you get the tv tuner, which I think I will pass on. I'm also passing on the integrated dvd burner- I think I could buy an external one for under $150.
-
The quality is a night and day difference, Fujitsu is substantially better built and better supported.

Just wondering, is the CD drive removable on this fujitsu? It looks like it is, but I don't see the lever to pull it out from the pictures. The IBM I have at work has a removable cd/floppy drive & I saw it advertised at dell too
-
Yes, it's a modular bay drive. Underneath there's a tiny little lever that releases the drive. In my P7000 it's near the front, running paralell to the keyboard.

Fujitsu N6010 Series Laptop Model FPCM60262
I just bought one of these, without the tv tuner, and installed with XP Home. I have owned HP, ASUS, and Toshiba
I can honestly say this is the most wicked laptop I have ever used.
Pro's
FAST!
DVDRW
The Amazing Screen! Nicest I have ever laid eyes on! Incredibly Bright and crisp.
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB will play any current title on the market at playable framerates.
The quality of construction is premium!
Design is well thought out
It has a full size numerical keypad
Sound quality is the best I have yet to hear in a laptop.. and I have heard many many models, it sports an Integrated Subwoofer, which surprisingly really works! DVD Movies are finally nicely loud with excellent audio quality
Loaded with features, like useful access buttons, Firewire, 802.11a/b/g and Gigabit Ethernet, built in kickstand, for excellent cooling.. this unit does not get overly warm, and finally it's not "over loaded with useless, power sucking, bloated programs like HP or Toshiba". This unit came really lean on the software preload and i appreciate that! way to go Fuji!
Battery life between 1.5 to 2 hrs
Considering the massive display, and the fact it uses a P4 CPU, with a 128 MB Viddy, to me thats not too shabby
to have the extreme HP with a fab Pricetag, you have to give up a little right?
The Screen!!!
Con's
Heavy at about 10lbs
Power adapter is large, but not the biggest I've seen
So far so good on this unit and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I will write a review with detailed test info, and pics shortly.
"Good luck with that!" -
Glad you're so happy with it. Ordered my N6010 1/20 also w/o tuner, 1GB ram. Can't wait to get it
-
I wonder why Fujitsu opt not to use pci-e with ATI Radeon X700 128 MB?
-
I suggest it's due to the availablity of the ATI X600/X700 at the time Fuji delivered to market.
the R9700 in it is quite nice though... my initial 3D mark03 score was 3289... I'm quite pleased with that. my last ASUS M6BNE Centrino 1.7 and R9700 64MB Only scored 2872
"Good luck with that!"
