even for $700, with a somewhat intel core 2 processor, i'll still have to think about it, if it was under $500, i'll pull the trigger
lol
-
Now you are really dreaming. You'd be hard pressed to find a device that is compact, that has both an ION cpu and a Core 2 processor be it C2S or C2D. I don't even think the 13in or 14in Timeline even starts that low.
-
meh.. i don't really need that much processor power to be honest
all i need is the video decoding power
i could care less about the cpu.. i have no use.. i only use netbooks/notebooks for watching videos and typing homework and powerpoints.
-
3DMark06 results are in... 249 3DMarks. CPU Score of 457.
Also, the test ran at 1280x768 with no way for me to change it. -
So how does this stack up compared to Atom(the N and the Z) base machines with either the GMA950 or 500 gpu? And for the sake comparison how does the ATI card compare to the intel 4500hd gpu?
-
so.. is that higher or lower than the atom combo? lol
i don't know the scores on anything x.x -
You have an Aspire One right? Run it on your own machine and post back.
-
If you want to know the 3dmark06 scores of any netbook you can check the NBR reviews.
3dmark06 is a gaming benchmark though and says nothing about overall system performance. -
i have 2 acer netbooks... which one? lol
-
This may take the Gateways thunder. Not sure how the gpu compares but yeah http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/acers-11-6-inch-aspire-timeline-1810t-a-netbook-we-can-finally/
-
Damn it why did Acer have to do this. Now it really making it hard to justify a purchase of a Vaio TT or G3. Now if this had the ATI card that is optional on the 14in model damn I'd be super sold(the same gpu as this gateway model).
-
Interesting Engadget calls it a netbook, while technically it's a CULV.
-
Yeah I was wondering that also.
-
question is.. how much would it cost? $600 like all the other acer timeline series?
-
I expect the same as Timeline 13" SU3500.
-
so.. then more likely $700 USD?
$600 13" was with SU2700 -
http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=3810T SU3500&sa=N&tab=wf&um=1
But maybe Acer will charge a premium as they are the only 11.6" with those specs. -
For now, but then again that may lead some users to go after the AMD based gateway or that other one posted in this thread. I only hope they add ATI card to this model as an option(really hope for a dul core and ati card, but I don't want to be greedy, so I only ask for the ATI card).
Well there are a few Asus at 11.1in like the U2, lower end U20, and 12.1in, like the U6. Then there is the Sony Vaio TT at 11.1in and the Vaio G3. So, there is a good amount of competion in that size but the price is what really make the Asus different, despite the lower specs in eithe gpu, or cpu.
So how does the gpu in this compare to the ATI one in the Gateway? -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Not true. Dell's 11.6" is coming soon. -
Let's wait and see who is the first to market, then we can establish if it is true or not.
Now we are just speculating. -
heh.. it shouldn't take acer that long to get the 1810t out..
the gateway do seem the best "netbook" so far though. -
Why do you think so?
I think the CPU performs bad and the battery life falls short. -
well the cpu is a bit slower than the Atom but the gpu is much better, and I am assuming the gpu will be a little better than the 4500hd.
-
Well if the user reports are right the AMD is not even sufficient for SD Youtube.
For people that want to game the Gateway may be the better solution, but not many people buy a netbook for gaming.
4500 is actually better than X1270 but I think you mean GMA950. -
Really, I would have though the x1270 would have been better. I guess I was wrong.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
X1270 is like 3 generations behind ATI's current 4000 series graphics. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes and two genrations behind the 3000 series
-
Well at least it better than the gma 950 so at least that is a step in the right direction.
-
OK, got the processor and installed it. Computer sees it and boots into Vista. Had to downclock and undervolt it to 1GHZ. Still have to make some adjustments and probably a cooling mod. Accomplished what I needed though.
This is a 31 watt processor, so if you can find a 25-20 watt, the better. Also the undervolt/underclock is done within Windows (not BIOS), so you will have to adjust the settings quickly or the CPU will heat up and freeze up computer, possibly causing damage.
Do at your own risk, all you tinkerers and overclockers know the deal.
-
Dude. You rock. I think I'm going to try this with a QL-62, which is 25 watts. What happens if you leave the clock speed where it is? Or at, lets say, 1.3 Ghz?
Also, is there a way to control the fan speed? I'm thinking that might compensate for the extra heat. Maybe also try to get a command line thing at start up to adjust the clock speed. What did you use to control the CPU and voltage? -
Thanks for doing that and thanks for the great post. +1 Rep.
-
Please understand what you are getting into (voiding warranty, damage). The main problem is COOLING. The cooling system is not designed for a CPU that's 30 watts, probably not even 20. Granted it only cost me $20 for the X2, but anything could happen.
Since there's no adjustments in the BIOS (hack anyone?) and I'm not electronically inclined, I'm going to try to mod the cooling a bit.
I'm going to try to find a lower wattage CPU too. -
I can't find a used QL-62 or the 20 watt you mentioned earlier.
If I leave the clock default on my Turion X2, the computer freezes up. It just can't cope with the heat. I knew this from the beginning; that's why I talked about underclocking. But it gets hot quickly, so if it isn't downclocked right away it will lock up.
I use RMclock to undervolt and underclock. It starts up within Windows. Once the computer adjusts to its new multiplier and voltage it settles down. At 1GHZ it feels snappy and it doesn't peg out on the resources. It actually is about the same temp and fan speed (low) as the original CPU.
CoreTemp reads my CPU temp at 37 and 51 (idle) so it's lopsided. Maybe I got a hot CPU or the heatsink it uneven.
I'm guessing 4 hrs for basic web serving. -
Do you think the single or dual core AMD Neo from the HP DV2 might work? What is the wattage on Neo cpu anyway?
Thank you for the post that is some good work, -
Apparently, the TK-42 (the 20W) only exists in AMDs database. I saw QL-62s on ebay last week, you have to wait for a cheap one to pop up. Alternatively, you could buy one from here for $45. I'm taking the one from my sister-in-laws old tx2000. I'm hoping I'll only have to tune it down to 1.4 Ghz or so. How do you figure out what voltage to set it at?
-
Dude, you kick . Anyway you can post a picture of the motherboard?
-
TechGadget09, I am esp. interested in pics of the cooling and the cpu socket. Thanks
-
Neo=ASB1 soldered socket (15 watts)
L110=Socket S1 368 pin
Thanks. -
Will upload some tonight.
-
RMClock will detect it and set it as so. You then lower and stress test it to see if the system will crash. Just like overclocking but the otherway.
-
Looks like the QL-62 is a socket S1-G2. That socket has a "split power plane design."
http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Turion-X2-Ultra-Notebook-Processor.10129.0.html -
Damn it. Are you sure the motherboard socket on the RS690E isn't an S1-G2? Even if the L110 isn't an S1-G2, the socket still could be. The newer sockets are backwards compatible, no?
-
How about an AMD TK-42
http://products.amd.com/en-us/Noteb...3=1600&f4=&f5=&f6=G2&f7=65nm+SOI&f8=&f9=1600& -
As far as I can tell, it exists only on AMD's website. Haven't found a single laptop that contains it or a site that sells it.
-
sez who? Youtube works fine on this netbook for me.
-
praying for pics, I might buy one tomorrow morning, also could some one post the lspci and dmesg, thoughts on touchpad esp wrt multitouch, powernow on linux
-
The guys in the thread in the Gateway forum: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393520
HQ at stockspeed? -
Label on socket says "S1." All my software utilities identify it as "S1G1."
Newer socket to older CPUs=yes. Seems that the Turion "Ultra" and some Athlons use G2.
So that's what I've researched. Could work don't know. -
Will have some time after work.
