Was that a DreamColor display? I'm assuming not, given the price, but the glowing review of the display makes me wonder.
-
At least on the previous generation FirePro's did not yet support DC so it was Quadro only option. Don't know if that has changed.

The 8760w? My 8740w has the FirePro card and DreamColor 2 display.
The review doesn't specify, but it doesn't sound like it has a DreamColor display. If it did, I'd say the review woefully under-describes it. -
Yes. It was said (in some of the owner's threads as far as I remember) because only Quadro could output 10bit colors needed, no FirePro and DC combination. This was also stated as the reason why there is no Optimus with Quadro, the Intel GPU could not output 10bit colors for the DC panel either.
I hope I'm wrong though
-
As I understanded, it is NOT dream color panel...
Can you check what panel type is used?
thanks -

That makes sense. I think I remember customizing an 8760w and being forced to opt for the Quadro w/ the DreamColor screen (it was quite the expensive upgrade - both options, actually).
I haven't checked in with the latest owners, but the 10-bit color support was finicky on the 8740w. -
How sturdy is it compared to its predecessors?
HP has promo videos of its predecessors with a motorcycle running on top etc.
Digging the three mouse buttons, although 3 mouse buttons on top and bottom is something new! -
The three mouse buttons on top are for use with the point-stick; those on bottom are for the track pad. I think this arrangement dates back quite a ways and is probably on the way out as business laptops become more and more consumerized.
-
You are right, I've become too accustomed to the consumer laptops.
Although, even the thinkpads didnt have three buttons at top AND bottom (they only had two AFAIR) -

HP has been doing the three button config for a while - my 8740w has three top and bottom and even way back in 2007, the 8710w did.
HP 8710w Workstation Review -
I owned the 8710w for a while, why do I not remember the three top+bottom config?
I have no recollection of it AT ALL
Time for a brain checkup.
I do remember the awesome build quality. -
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Yes - the 8710w is an incredible machine. We still have one in the office here - keeps on ticking and it felt like you could knock a moose unconscious with it (if necessary and the occasion arose) and turn it on the next morning. ^^
Fwiw I also remember the 3 button setup. At present I am working on an Elitebook 8560w, and it also has that setup, so I assume it is more of a standard thing with larger HP Elitebooks? -
No no, that would be the Alienware M17 ....what a tank
-
It has been around a while. I had Omnibook 6000 with 1400x1050 screen, my cousin is still using it (it's only 13-14 years old!). I haven't had my hands on the laptop for couple years now, I don't remember anymore if the 3rd button was middle button or scroll or what it did
-

The middle button functions the same as a middle mouse button on my 8740w.
-
Yup its been around since I remember too. I've had nearly all of the 15" business line HPs and they've all had the 6 buttons.
