HP Mini 110 Netbook Gets Colors, Video Acceleration
    [IMG][IMG]
HP today added new options to its Mini 110 netbook - twocolors and a Broadcom video accelerator chip. The two new colors are white swirl and pink chic; selecting either means adding $20 onto the price tag.

A Broadcom video accerator chip is a $30 option that allows for smooth HD video playback without stressing the processor. Users will need to use the ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre in order to take advantage of the video acceleration features, however.

Interesting. But what's the difference between using the Broadcom chip for HD-video, versus a netbook that can play HD-video smoothly even without it? Such as the Gateway or one of the others that play high definition video without a problem.

HP Mini certainly looks appealing now. Haven't read too much on it, though.

EDIT: Nevermind. Read some more and found out. Certainly looks promising. I've been needing a HD-capable netbook, was looking at the Gateway but found out you can't do HD flash on that, but with a downloaded files you can. Maybe this is what I need (HP Mini), though after I upgrade everything it'll be like $150 more.

You won't be able to play any sort of HD flash video on this even with the HD option. Only certain files will play, with the included software.

Yes you will, at least next year. Adobe is working on gpu accelerated flash, and this card will be compatible with it.

That's right. And I realize the flash part of it won't be available until next year, but this has to be better than using a typical processor with graphics card for downloaded files, right?

This coupled with the matte finish has me purchasing tomorrow morning it looks like. Was gonna get the Gateway, though. Downloaded files are where most of my video watching comes from. I do realize you have to use the ArcSoft software.

    Looks pretty cool for now.

For those interested, HP juts added a 1366x768 resolution option ($30) to this laptop - that's pretty nice. The line between notebooks and netbooks is becoming a purely technical one.

I agree with you. I had purchased a netbook back when they were first coming out. Now I just ordered the HP Mini 110 this morning, with the Broadcom chip and a bunch of other stuff.
