<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-05-01T22:45:55 -->According to information leaked on their own website, HP will apparently be updating their existing line of laptops: the Pavilion dv2000t, dv6000t and dv9000t to incorporate the new Intel Santa Rosa platform when it's released on May 9th. Some information on the new Compaq 6510b, 6710b, 8510w and 8710w Santa Rosa laptops is also out.
HPdv2000 specs in a product guide off of HP's website indicate the Intel Santa Rosa platformIn some product manuals linked to from the HP website you can see that the specs refer to processors with an 800MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), Intel GM965 chipset and the Intel X3100 integrated graphics option -- all components of Intel's upcoming "Santa Rosa" platform. Interestingly there's a new Core 2 Duo processor listed for the dv2000, the Intel Core Duo T5450 that has a 1.67GHz clock speed and 2MB of L2 cache, meaning it's going to be one of the budget offerings in the "Santa Rosa" platform. It appears that some configurations will also offer 802.11n. Links to the product manuals for these Santa Rosa HP consumer notebooks can be found here:

Compaq Business Santa Rosa Laptops
On the business side of things, the HP Compaq 6710b and Hp Compaq 6510b laptop info has leaked out via an HP Italian website. Notebook Italia first reported this leak. All will use the Intel Santa Rosa platform and be released on May 9th. It appears the 14" screen Compaq 6510b will simply be the same design and model as the already released Compaq 6515b we reviewed, except with an Intel processor platform instead of AMD. On a European HP website the specs for the 6510b are listed as follows:
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 / T7700, FSB 800MHz
- Memory: 4GB DDR2 PC2-5300 a 667MHz
- Screen: 14,1" WXGA BrightView
- Graphics: Intel GMA X3100
- Hard Drive SATA 80-120-160 at 5400rpm / 80GB at 7200 rpm
- Networking: BroadCom 5787 10/100/1000 LAN, Wireless LAN 802.11 a,b,g,n, Bluetooth 2.0, WWAN (EVDO, HSDPA)
The HP Compaq 6510b laptop will look the same as the 6515b pictured aboveThe 6710b laptop will have a 15.4" screen, just like the already announced 6715b AMD based notebook does. We're expecting to see a Compaq 8510w and 8710w workstation laptop from HP as well -- these would be 15.4" and 17" screen Santa Rosa notebooks respectively. Below is a picture of the 8710w 17" widescreen Santa Rosa machine:

8-more days until the release of Santa Rosa, is there any notebook not uncovered yet though?

I wish those specs would include a 1920x1200 17" display!!! Still have until next week to return my current dv9000t!
-
Ah finally the dv6000 has hdmi out. Hopefully it will output 1920x1200 using hdmi to dvi cable
-
No option for dedicated gpu?
-
Does this mean HP will axe its offerings of the current iteration of Core 2 Duo CPU's, or still leave the Napa platform around to get rid of its stock (and at lower prices =D)?
-
-
Might sound crazy, but HP has done it before. Options tend to appear/disappear/reappear during a product's lifecycle. Anyway, we all know how conservative HP is with dedicated graphics options (as in almost an afterthought).
What does surprise me is that they did not give the refreshed line a new nomenclature other than dv2/6/9XXX. This would have given them the chance to continue selling the older platforms until supply is exhausted (as HP usually does).
Now, does that mean we will see 2 configurable dv6000t's on HP's site soon, one old and one new? I dunno, sounds confusing for the average buyer.
Mike -
how come there is no new model number for new platform ?
You will have to run cpu-z or read serial number to figure whether it has santa rosa. No way you can do it in online shops. -
-
well not every retiler prints that in specs. For example Fry's often provides no specs
-
i hope they solved cpu noise problem with this new cpu
-
From my infos the nomenclature is a bit different:
HP Pavilion DV25**, DV65** and DV 95**
e.g. you can find several models searching for dv2500 (or dv6500 or dv9500) on HP site.
There are also new HP Compaq PresarioV3000 and V6000 series, as reported on this article on Notebook Italia -
Ahhh, so it will be dubbed the dv6500t as the generic nomenclature? The only strange thing is that the maintenance guide posted above still says "dv6000", which to me does not differentiate between the outgoing and incoming platform.

I am *very* dissapointed with the succesors of nx7400/7300 lines of notebooks. HP really fckd up the most stellar keyboard in the budget market, e.g. the 7400 model's one (also present on more expensive nc64xx, or 8xxx models etc).
Sorry HP, but that wasn't smart move. It has been nice to own your notebooks with this type of keyboard you've had:
The KING I liked...
Now instead of making it a bit better (putting a bit horizontal space between CAPS LOCK and A, or making this useless key smaller, better made and bigger arrows keys or adding horizontal space between numbers and F-keys) you've gone for budget, to earn your money, and reuse your already made parts...for Pavilion. Ah no!
And it is clear - its resemblence to the aweful keyboard experience (my friend bought this model) on Pavilion models:
this is a kid's joke not a real keyboard
So now we, the coders, the workers, the business-men are left with something which is not a step forward. It is definitely better than on Pavilion (I tried it), it has bold Alphabets, better vertical space between ENTER and rest of the keys, etc, but it is MUCH MUCH worse that the current nx7400 one.
Gone is the dedicated HOME-INSERT block, gone are the stellar curved and carefully placed keys, etc...HP, you just fckd it up with the keyboard-touch.
My tear dropped when tried this...
Now I am in search for another brand, sorry to say that.
I type 50wpm in weak daysand I need good or excellent keyboard in a notebook in a first place...That's what business line of HP were allways like, for me.
It is like LENOVO Thinkpad's exchange its ACE...the HP's ACE is gone...no need to buy it again.
Thanks for reading, just my 2 cents...I am really concise, I would be glad if others see that too. -
Another brand bites the dust, only Dell and Lenovo left with solid keyboard layouts. Or are there any others (with dedicated PageUp/PageDown/Home/End section like on a desktop keyboard)?
At least they don't have the stupid Ctrl/Fn position switch yet. -
GMA X3000 or x3100?
I have read about the x3000 ... isn't this is supposed to be at least capable of running some basic FPS games (T&L, etc) ???
It is rare to see dedicated GPU's offered in Laptops from the main public resellers (best buy, officeXXX, etc) - so I suppose it would be nice to see something better than the old 950's.
Based on that I could see why some laptop manufacturers might skip the ATI1300/1400's or NVIDIA 7400's in favor of the x3000's. Maybe leaving the dedicated GPU's to the better 1600/7600's or higher... -
For the newbie, is there a post or an article that discusses the advancements of the Santa Rosa platform? I'd like to know if the benefits are worth waiting for.
Also, I'm considering a couple of laptops with the current C2D 5300 in a HP DV6245 and the Toshiba A205-s4577 (both on sale for 899 and 849 respectively through Satuday). Do you think the price will drop much on these units or will there just be a price increase for the models with the Santa Rosa?
Thanks! -
Wow, no more antiglare monitor options. Man that sucks, just high glossy screens.
-
.
Edit:
Here are some interesting points:
- Video option: nVidia NB8P-SE (G86M-128bit) with 256 MB of dedicated video memory. Don't know much about video, is this integrated?
- Ethernet: Integrated Realtek RT8101e 10/100 network interface card. My current dv9000t has Intel 1GB ethernet, could be a misprint?
- Wireless: option for Intel PRO wireless 4965 a/b/g
- Security: Fingerprint reader (select models only) -
I have no problems with DV6000t keyboard, and I type a lot too....
-
Interesting find. According to the above specs for that unit, the "NB8P" turns up GeForce Go 8600 on Google search, while the "G86M" part of it finds GeForce Go 8500. With the "SE" designation in the specs (which usually denotes "lite version"), are we looking at a GeForce Go 8600SE based on a Go 8500 core?
Thoughts, anyone?

This was interesting as I've been considering the HP DV6345 but was curious about what the Santa Rosa platform might offer in the way of improvements and if it would be worth the wait.
In checking out the PDF of the product manual for the "HP Pavilion dv6000 Santa Rosa" (link in the first posting) I found that the laptop would have an HDMI port (see page 13 (21 of 148) in the PDF).
Unfortunately after searching on HP.com for the DV6500 I found two "US" models the DV6560 and the DV6570 and after checking out their specifications they don't show either with an HDMI port. Perhaps they'll intorduce a model later with HDMI - or will it only be available on custom built rigs? Also, no gigabit which I thought was another advantage of the Santa Rosa platform.
Given this info, not really sure it's worth the wait but interested in other thoughts. -

The other 4% is the nc8430. About 1" thin, one of the lightest 15.4" laptops out there, and boasts the X1600. Eat that Dell

How well is the GMA X3100 going to handle gaming off the bat?
-
NB8P-GS -G84
NB8P-SE -G86
NB8M-SE -G86
No leaks of Mobile 8600 by any manufacturer yet! -
I love it when it comes to nvidia series 8
and I love the 4 GB of ram part too -
After some Googling, I found this Engadget article about the new dv2500/6500/9500
http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/02/hp-leaks-santa-rosa-laptop-specs-aplenty/
Both the dv2500 and 6500 are listed as having only the GMA X3100 integrated, but the dv9500 is supposed to have a GeForce 8400M. What is this, and how do you estimate it will compare to the current Go 7600 currently offered in this unit? Is this a performance step back or forward?
-
Geforce 8400 is the entry level 8 Series ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_8_Series). I'd say that the "M" stands for "Mobile version". Sounds to me like all this talk about "only integrated graphics" isn't going to be true. They just can't mention it yet because nvidia hasn't launched yet either.

Thanks to this thread, looks like newegg is listing them already! Prices look pretty good. Screenshot attached.

How are you guys seeing the specs? I go to the HP page and "product info>product specs" is a blank page. And the manuals don't have anything either. -
Can't wait to see the final specs on this.
Looks like HP is on the way to gaming.
Eat that, people who said the Voodoo purchase wouldn't accomplish anything!
-
That is such a beautiful computer, and it weighs a lot less than other 20" models too! Hopefully its got the new Go8800 series of cards; it would be highly dissapointing to say the least if it only had an 8600.
-
Asus will beat it with F3Sv which is just 15.4" and will have nVidia Mobile 8600.
-
Now, does that mean we will see 2 configurable dv6000t's on HP's site soon, one old and one new? I dunno, sounds confusing for the average buyer.

HP planning on first gaming machine the Pavilion HDX 20" with 8800 series GPS?
http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/05/hp-preparing-pavilion-hdx-20-inch-gaming-laptop/ -
Anyway, here is some info about business models - http://club.hp.ua/materials/pdfs/PSG_Compact_SPRING_2.0.pdf
Interesting is Blue-ray and "multi-media interface" (aka HDMI) option in 8xxx series, no X1900 (which is mentioned at this site; there is only a X1600 in that PDF).
