Last November HP and MTV Networks announced that "Asian Odyssey," the personal design of 20-year old Joao Oliveira of Porto, Portugal, had been chosen as the winner of the "Take Action. Make Art." global notebook-design contest. The design that won should be featured in an upcoming HP notebook as HP continues to push being on the edge of design.
Below is a graphic showing the back of a Pavilion dv2800 laptop that should be released during Spring of 2008. The design has an Asian influence and features. Last year HP released the special edition Verve dv2500 laptop that was a big hit with buyers.

I think most will agree that this is a nice looking design, and even if it's not your cup of tea, what HP is doing with design innovation is really great and should help them do well again in 2008.

CooL !!!

Nice graphics. Now, if only HP would apply some of that thirst for innovation to the internal design of its notebooks.
-
Bleh, and it will probably be wayyy over priced.
-
agreed. I like the patterns on the otherwise bland looking palm rest. However, I still think black notebooks look better.
-
Very, very nice looking notebook!
Agreed 100%. If they could just make a 15.4" dv6800 version with an 8600M-GT card, I'd be all over it. -

I personally cannot stand any graphics or excessive symbols on my gadgets, including my notebook. I prefer the simple, elegant, professional type of look and always rip off the Windows and CPU stickers.
But everyone is different and thank God for that. -
I fourth that motion. The 17" dv9500t is limited to 8600m GS? Doesn't seem like HP has any gaming-oriented notebooks in its lineup (other than the ridunculous HDX), and everyone knows that's a pretty big part of the notebook market.
-
im not so sure about it. to be honest...grab some markers and off you go...or if you're daring....design it...photoshop it..then get it pro printed on your notebook...
there are millions of people with great designs out there that just...don't bother submitting..everyone has something up their sleeve. but i suppose marketing goes a looong way! -
Yeah. Designs like these are over rated. I like all black laptops that most, and I really like the Dell XPS designs...the m1330 and m1530 mostly.
-
I think it looks very cool, I wouldn't buy it but nonetheless it's a very nice design.
-
i like the design but it would probally be with an over priced crappy notebook
-
I really like the design, and its neat to see this kind of stuff. But, im not sure how i would like that in the long run. It would be cool at first, but i think I would get tired of it after a while.
and yah, HP needs to do some internal overhauling of their laptops. Give me something to compete with the m1530, and ill be all over it. -
HP notebooks still look way better than Dell notebooks, IMO. Very nice design. I would consider buying this if I was in the market of buying one.
My biggest turn off from HP notebooks, IMO, has to be the hdd options are way too limited (particularly the speed). -
Actually, to be honest, I tend to go back and forth. Although simple designs are nice, they tend to get boring after a while. After all, my current notebook has a very basic, minimalist design, and I'm thinking my next notebook might have a bit more flair to it. Then again, something like the HP posted here probably has a bit too much flair to it; I would get tired of it rather quickly. Maybe my next notebook would be an XPS M1530 or an HP Pavilion... but then I'd get tired of those and would want to go back to something simpler.
Either way, style doesn't matter to me nearly as much as the specs of the machine. I'd much rather have an ugly brick with an awesome CPU & GPU, tons of RAM, and a big HD than have a really stylistic machine with weak specs. -
Yea now if someone in their design contests would introduce them to the acronym WSXGA+ that would be awesome...
-
Aside from fancy design, I think HP should gives us stronger graphic card as an option. They seems to put underrated GPU, such as 8600GS instead of 8600GT on their 17" notebooks.
-
they have to improve their QC before their style or design , I guess my HP does not work in 4 days, I returned it and now I got Acer, which looks much better ,all US products are overpriced IMHO.
-
Hmm what about Sony? I guess you forgot about them, eh?
-
So HP is planning to mass market a bunch of these "unique" notebooks? It would be nice if it was maybe 1,000 of each design manufactured but everyone having the same "different" laptop kind of defeats the purpose of buying one.
I'm definitely 100% behind artistic notebooks though. That Asian graphic is nice!
-
If HP wants to design things tailored to an individual's taste, why not let the customer upload images of the design they want and HP would print it out on the lid and inside the palm rest area.
Kinda like "HP Skinit" service, but instead of stickers, HP would imprint the customers custom design on the notebook itself. However, the problem would be those who decide to return it. So, HP should then be allowed to charge extra for that kind of service. But if individuals want something unique, then they shouldn't mind paying for it I guess.
Otherwise, a new design refresh per year would suffice. -
put that design on a 15.4 inch screen with wsxga+ display +8600gt and i am there.
We need hp and dell to combine forces so we can have great looking affordable performance beasts
.... i can dream can't i?
-
I think that's a very good idea and it'd be nice if they would implement it.
Unfortunately, I think HP is starting to make its designs a bit too...hmm, I can't think of the word atm. Simplicity, such as their radiance and verve design suffices. That's only my opinion though

You can find skins of the runner ups design on skinit.com

I really like some of them. I might even buy one. -
what a junk , it is horrible.
it is even not design , but just silly paint. -
Sorry, still only WXGA an 8400M GS for dv6800.
