few other complaints about the new 8560p...
- got rid of the middle mouse button?!?!![]()
![]()
- island keys will probably no longer have the dura finish of its predecessors + small arrow keys
- someone mentioned the vents are now on the right side
- standard battery is now only 62Whr
- traditionally, the 15" had a more powerful GPU than the 14", but they're the same now unless you move up to the W series
- at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if HP cut corners on the screen quality... even the standard 8540p/w screens were well above average
on the bright side...
- it's .4 lbs lighterand will probably have backlit keys instead of the little lamp.
- I don't feel the urge to upgrade already![]()
The cons far outweigh the pros, I'll gladly keep my outdated 8540w![]()
Maybe HP is doing this on purpose, so after all the disappointment... it will be easy to improve on the 8570 in every aspect. As it stands, the last gens would have been absolutely 100% perfect if it had the option to switch graphics.

As per the quickspecs linked above, while the exhaust vent on the 8460p is on the right, the exhaust vent on the 8560p is on the left. Not sure why they reversed them like that.

Are they planning on having a sale on the older models? Or is that common I should ask.
-
When the 8x40s replaced there 8x30s, there wasn't much of a sale, certainly not on the high end stuff. I had though maybe I could get the Core 2 Quad extreme CPU at a bargain price...it did not happen.
-
When will they announce/release the 8x60w series???why not now???Lenovo already beat them to the punch...come on HP!!!
-
I remember feeling like this last year. HP lags their workstations behind. Though it is hard to compare since announcing something and taking payment for something is very different from delivering something. I think in the end, the 8540w didn't lag very far behind the W510 in terms of actual first deliveries. You could easily prove me right/wrong by reading the early posts in each owner's lounge.

You can now customize the Probooks and Elitebooks on HPs site.
I think I'm going to wait for a few coupons and discounts before buying something with a quad core CPU
-
No, HP doesn't play coupon games with their Elitebooks. You need to contact a sales rep. Last generation, many of us were getting 28% off configurable Elitebooks. The pre-config models don't go on sale (until the very end of product life) or have coupons, though they sometimes will have offers with free docking stations. I think last generation they made an across the board price cut to the Elitebook line only about a month in to be more competitive with Dell and Lenovo. But I'm pretty sure that was only on the CTO base price. That was a while ago, so I could have some of the details wrong.
