Did HP just revive low-end Peryn?
Why did HP just revive low-end Peryn? I though Intel was moving away from 45nm production... -

A lot of notebooks still use the older Pentium Dual-Core/Celeron processors - Dell Inspiron 15, Lenovo G550, etc. HP isn't the only one. Intel likely has a surplus of the processors and wants to get rid of them. -
There appears to be a difference in the memory type used (DDR2 on the Wally World model) but it is still inexcusable for that much of a price difference to exist on 2 iterations of what is essentially the same machine

The G62m is $429 ($459 with the "Penryn" 2.1GHz Celeron Dual-Core T3500) and has the Intel GMA 4500M graphics. Add 4GB of RAM and the price is $509.
In comparison, a G62t with a current-gen 2.0GHz Pentium Dual-Core P6100 and Intel GMA HD graphics (3x as powerful as the 4500M) and the price is only $499. 4GB of RAM is included.
I guess HP doesn't expect most customers at the low end of the market to do much comparison shopping??? Also, doesn't it seem like this would more appropriately fall under the "Compaq" sub-brand? -

It looks like the price has dropped to $429.99 now after a $100 instant rebate. They are also offering a free 3GB RAM, upgrade and 320GB 5400RPM drive upgrade. Not too shabby for that price.

$429 before tax+shipping for a stone age laptop with single core CPU... they are kidding right? I mean if you wanna go all cheap, go to something like Dell Outlet and pickup something. In fact even there you can get a Latitude for that price...
Oh and champagne color on DV7 - ugly. 5650 card... really? Old technology and performance and not particularly cheap. :-/ -

While I agree that it should have at least a Celeron T3000 or T3100 at the very minimum, the 5650 on the DV7 is a nice card. It's a couple of steps better than the (UGH) GT330m that EVERYONE uses. And a Latitude from the outlet is going to have the exact same GMA graphics as HP's offering, just with a more powerful CPU.
The CPU in the G62 is socketed, and is a P socket at that, so it's got plenty of upgrade options. -
Well I didn't mean 5650 is a bad card, just seems outdated. It's on the level of GT335m, if I am not mistaken. Yeah 330m is crap, in comparison.
I mean to say... both of these laptops look like they came out of an old outlet warehouse. While the new ULV CPUs might not be top-of-the-line, I think they are pretty good for regular usage, especially when it comes to not generating excessive heat.
dv7t comes price wise around $900 atm, with i5 CPU and 5650 graphics. I'd say a nice plus is that it has 2 hard drive bays. -
Has anyone noticed the G62x? It seems to just be a G62t with less CPU options... Has HP really lost it?
-
i used the G62 for a while , it has the worst laptop display i have ever used . the brightness is extremely low
-
It is a DX11 card how can that be outdated? Current GT425 is on same level.
