The HP-branded Voodoo Firefly concept gaming notebook has been revealed by LAPTOP magazine. Notable features include dual displays and a multi-touch touchpad. It reportedly weighs 13 pounds including the power brick. The Firefly features a 17-inch WUXGA display, secondary 4.3-inch display, and a backlit keyboard. Specifications include an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 quad-core processor and dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 graphics cards.

The Firefly concept gaming notebook will unfortunately not be coming to market.

IMO That is one of the ugliest and dumbest notebooks ever made, i mean the thing is like a box, totally unconventianal, some useless features, and pretty much useless for lefties!

I agree, it's ugly. Here's my other qualms with the concept:
-The secondary 4.3-inch display is too small to practically multitask with. A gimmick, in other words.
-13 lbs, for what? Laptops with similar specs (or better) weigh several pounds less.
-Multi-touch touchpad. There is a reason gamers don't use touchpads to play games.
-X-Fi is probably one of the most overrated technologies on the market.

The power brick (the box next to the laptop, if that is really what it is) is scarily large.

No gamer I have ever heard bout used the touchpad on a laptop to game - it's just too impractical, no matter what they do to the touchpad.

It's a terrible concept machine but nice to see them thinking about using dual ATI in Crossfire.

If only Lenovo would think about using Crossfire we might see a gaming rig version of the dual screen W700.

It's not a very well thought out concept, but maybe there's an elusive niche who'd appreciate a trackpad on the right side? heh

Indeed. I'm pretty sure I've seen entire laptops smaller than that power brick.

The high quality touchpad seems rather out of place to me here -- if you're going to lug that thing and it's power brick around, would it really be too much of a bother to bring a mouse as well?

Also, 170W is well into desktop territory. At some point, it might just be easier to carry around a small desktop...

notebooks have been using up to 220 watts already for the last couple of years.... mainly the high-end Clevo notebooks. ;)

My power brick does not look that fugly as compared to that Voodoo's. :)

They should have just invented a power brick thats also a notebook cooler. Especially with a brick that size.

The laser imprint looks neat though.

Although the one good point is the massive vents under it, at least it will get plenty of air.

I guess I am glad I had such a terrible experience with voodoo, cause I know that whatever they do I am never buying into it.
Custom built laptops from now on :D

As Gophn mentioned, our D900K's have had 220 watt power bricks, which are literally the same dimensions of a brick, but they are kinda nice and elegant cause they dont look so massive like a square.
My upcoming laptop has a 750 watt power supply :D

I remember reading somewhere that VooDoo is now under umbrella of HP? Please correct me if I'm wrong..

Anyway Where the heck is the secondary 4.3-inch? Is it the tiny glowing thing that looks like a logo, under the main LCD, or is it that black, square looking thingy at the bottom right corner of the keyboard?

Even though we can beat a dead horse to say that this notebook (not laptop, no way..) are suited for LAN party gamers...I'd say that any sane person would choose OCZ instead..
