I'm convinced that engadget was full of it on the IPS thing. I couldn't find any mention of IPS anywhere from HP or other news sites. I'll be happy if it's a decent TN panel.

I also don't understand why it would say blu-ray was available on the Envy 15 website. I'm pretty sure slot-loading blu-ray drives don't exist for that size.

As for the weak graphics card, you can't really blame hp. They're offering what's basically the best amd card available at that size. Anything more powerful would mean the laptop would be massive. The really annoying thing is that you can hardly play bf3 right now on any reasonably sized laptop.

The graphics card on the 15" Envy is a 6850M.

Interesting.. why won't they give out more information about the laptop?

And I've seen so many different identifications of video cards from HP chat,

I don't really know what to believe............ and also the screen, too.

I would've liked to see a nice bump in gpu speeds, but it's just rebadged crap again.

Nothing is rebadged. Look at my last post and the attached thumbnail. They haven't even bothered rebadging it. It's just the good old 6850M.

We should just wait until someone orders it and is hopefully nice enough to tell us.

Hey guys, I would like to referre you to this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...nvy-15-envy-17-envy-17-3d-59.html#post8139879

Besides that, I ordered one yesterday and spent 2h on the phone with HP. After 6 call forewardings I got to a guy in the tech-section and he could ask his supervisor who seemed to have all the specs. He told me he can't send me the pdf that his supervisor has, as it is only for training purposes. But what he told me was the following:

It is a 7690m graphics card, we are pretty shure it is more or less the same as the 6770m. He also said that the WLAN is an Intel 6300, which is awsome.

I also got information about the graphics card by 2 sales reps, and they told me it will be a 7670 and a 6870, both unlikely (the HP wesite says 1GB GDDR5 when you click on demo at the Envy 15, and the 7670 is the GDDR3 version of the 7690. The 6870 has double the TDP, 50 watt instead of 25, so also pretty impossible)

I hope I could help a bit, but I would recommend to join the Envy 15/17 forum :)

I'm shocked that everyone who calls HP gets a different answer about what GPU is in the Envy 15. This does NOT inspire confidence.

Ever since I bought my first HP laptop I ALWAYS had the notion that HP chat representatives didn't even know what HP was and simply had long lists of information. And of course they're all hidden somewhere in the depths of India.

Well, I don't know how HP can expect people to order a premium laptop without being able to tell them what the hell is inside of it. Someone in marketing needs to get a new job...maybe the obama admin? "Just pass us the bills and we'll tell you what's inside it after its built"...

    silly

I would second that and I am an Indian and know exactly how these IT support guys have so limited knowledge about how computer hardware or software works as most of them are business graduates. But you might be lucky to get a geek or someone who loves his laptops on the line !!!

There are some companies like IBM and Oracle who hire IT engineers as Tech support but it's mostly for servers or support for large companies. They are on higher wages. I apologize for digressing from the topic.

I have used HP computers all through my life until I ended up with the HP DV4- 1000ea with the famed overheating problem after which I have taken a liking to Lenovo Thinkpads. But the ENVY15 is tempting me to return back to HP.

I would love to know if HP will launch the ENVY15 in the UK market. Apart from that have they learnt from their mistakes on laptop cooling.
