No, its going to be essentially the more of the same. The improvements in Griffin arent aimed at cpu performance but towards power management. We will have to see whether it will really make a big impact on battery life. The main selling point would be the integrated graphics included in the Puma platform, the HD3200 should do quite well for an integrated GPU compared to the Intel X4300 or the Nvidia 8200M. On the whole it has some nice technologies, we will have to wait and see how it does and if it will provde the promised benefits.

It is a bit disappointing, but better to have them fix the problems before production.
I pushed back my time frame to purchase a laptop, so all the better in the end.
^_^_^ -
It's too bad Intel suits don't see it the same way you do. They're probably more worry about the Q3 earnings.
-
Thanks Miner.
So the Griffin will still be quite a bit behind the Core 2 Duo when it comes to performance (though that is not only thing, maybe not even the most important thing anymore, when it comes to CPUs these days). Therefore, the delay will probably not hurt Intel that much. They can still just keep selling their existing Core 2 Duo though volumes might fall off as consumers who want Intel may delay purchases until the Centrino 2 arrives. -
Thats exactly what I was thinking
! I wanted to get my 1st notebook in time for college but i wanted to make sure that it had the newest parts so it wouldnt get outdated too fast. Oh well, im sure I can wait until late August-early Sept.
-
I was wondering, with all these new processor platforms coming out, how much has battery life and performance increased in contrast to the prices?:confused2:
-
Does that mean the Latitude E will be delayed because of this?
-
yeah i mean Puma, i think, is going in the right direction because in most tasks, the CPU is not the bottleneck, but the graphics card is. also, i think its kind of sad that battery life has not improved so much over the years. id rather have a more capable all around computer than these processors that still get 2-3 hrs of battery life and IGP solutions that only can play old games or new ones, maybe, on low.
I think AMD will go back to the top, just like how the Pentium 4 got crushed. That is an example right there that CPU speed isn't everything. -
I was hoping for a new MBP (or something uber powerful xD) in June...oh well I guess I'll need to wait.
-
There are still rumors that there is going to be a Macbook line refresh at WWDC. They could still announce it and then ship whenever they become available. I'm hoping for new Macbook with LED screen.
-
Centrino 2 can be ordered on the HP 6910p right now according to the HP website...is HP offering something that doesn't exist?
-
Where do you see that?

I guess if Apple got warning of this early, it explains why they decided on overclocking the Santa Rosa platform to near Montevina specs with a 1066MHz FSB and 800MHz DDR2 SODIMMs instead of waiting on Montevina for the iMacs.

Intel's branding line-up is plumbing old-lows again it seems.
Core2, Core2 Extreme, Core2 Duo, Core2 Solo, Centrino, Centrino 2, Centrino Pro, Atom, Atom Duo etc etc.
I actually think they should make the Core range a desktop only part and evolve Centrino into a CPU name or some such. -
Centrino refers to the platform. Core 2 is the CPU. If you have all three aspects of Centrino (CPU, Intel wireless, and Intel video) then you get a Centrino case badge.
-

I know that. I just don't think it is a good branding line-up. -
Incorrect. "Centrino, a platform-marketing initiative from Intel, covers a particular combination of CPU, mainboard chipset and wireless network interface in the design of a laptop personal computer." - wiki. GPU is not part of Centrino.
-
Correct. I was thinking chipset but then wrote in video as a component of Centrino.
-
"Facing a lack of real competition from AMD, Intel announced today 'Screw this Moore guy, we ain't releasing new stuff until we've got a reason. You'll buy the old crap at our insane prices and you'll like it, dammit!' Analysts are unsurprised."
That's what I read. Perhaps I'm a tad cynical, though. -
My country more worse, 1 USD=3.3 local currency, 1 Euro=5 !
-
One of the reasons I ordered my laptop from the states. I saved 600 euros on the U6SG-A1. On top of that in my area they are asking me for an additional 120 euros just to have a qwerty keyboard. QWERTY is very rare and nobody orders it in their shop because consumers prefer swiss german/german/french/other junk
. This is fubar because I live in a very international country
.
Back to Montevina, people seem to have missed something. There is a problem with the N protocol and some other perks. INTEL said they will ship them with ABG only in order to get a slice of the back to school season. -
If you go to the custom configuration page for the 6910p, it's available to choose.
-
I did that, but it said nothing about Centrino 2. It said Core 2 Duo.
-
Where did you read that?
Sure, they offer it . Doesn`t mean you`ll get it before July 14th. -
my country 44 local currency= 1 usd
-
always this things happen , I just ordered a Vostro1510 a couple of weeks a go and I thought I made a huge mistake , but now I think I did the right thing , since Dell told my mom it would take 4 weeks to come to my mom's house, then she'd have to send it to me here.
so I just bought an Acer 2920G , I like it but its LCd is too small for DXO and Video editing thing, but I like this Acer for just casual non-serious use like word-processing or doing my home works.
Any way, I am glad I did not wait it for 3 more months.........it will be seriously long waiting , I can't live without WUXGA or WSXGA+ laptop for a long time..
I will get the Dell in a few days hopefully, then the Acer'll become my walk around PC.
Thank you for the report. -
Your gaming rigs say the other way around
-
well, i'm rich in my country
-
Well this makes me feel a bit better about ordering a laptop few days ago, since i didnt want to wait that long
-
Judging by the computers taht you own, I would agree with you there buddy.
-
Would you rather dump the goods on a ship and straight shoot it across the Pacific or dump them on a truck or train and have it go over bumpy roads and mountains? The sea route takes longer to Europe too.
-
That's what commercial planes are for.
-
Spoil sport
. The story was nice with the boats, trains, and trucks
. I doubt a truck will bring a laptop from Hong Kong to Europe
.
-
High class baby :
I don`t think they use planes though, too expensive, and boats neither, since there`s not much water between Asia and Europe(there`s between, but not as a commercial route).
So. carriages?
-
I'd say plane, container ships will take far too long (1 month + definitely), same for land.
-
The option to select Centrino 2 is under the heading "Centrino vPro". You can select Intel Centrino 2 with vPro technology, and it adds $20 to the price. Estimated ship date is 6/14/2008 whether or not this option is selected.
-
in my country 1usd=308(was 540 1 year ago) and 1euro=540(was 740)
-
Well I guess that's why you high rollers in Europe pay more for Made in China goods
-
Direct cause of that is the European Union, taxes and the Euro.
-
Yes.No offence to chinese, but here, most of the merchandise that comes with a MIC sticker are crap.
Good thing Montevina 2 is not on that road
-
haha, they are probably no brand generic products...
Products ''designed'' by the chinese are always crud.
-
Well ... I was holding my breath for the "Coupons" start rolling again since Montevina was supposed to roll in June '08 ... I guess I am basically SOL'ed ... now that I have missed on some deals. BTW, some laptop companies are jacking up their current Inventory prices ... no name of course ... psst " Hallow Pumpkin".
G!
