Your fine, letranger. Those complaints about your laptop dont really apply because:

    1) Vista is getting better.
    2) 2gb RAM is just fine for vista
    3) Games will depend more on the GPU than the hard drive.
    4) No DVD-RW will save you weight on the go, +you can plug it in when you get home if you want to game.
    5) 1280x1024 is not existant on laptops which are widescreen. 1280x800 is a good res for a 13.3" screen.

    - Vista is getting better, although I dont like it, but there is nothing seriously bad about it.

    - 2GB ram is almost a requirement for Vista to run smoothly.

    - 5400rpm is standard on noteboooks, you friend is a moron. Fujitsu hdds ae fine.

    - Ask him to think about the thickness and weight of you shiney new notebook.

    - 1280x1024 is 4:3 res...1280x800 is widescreen...what an idiot...

You got a nice notebook! Don't let anyone put doubts in your mind! :)

    the notebook is amazing.

For the price and for what you get its an extremely good deal. I went on dell's website and lenovo website try configuring all that for the same price. It'll cost more for something similar.

Sounds like your friend is thinking about your new laptop from a gaming point of view, not an ultraportable point of view. For a laptop of its size, the LG P300 has amazing speed and unheard of gaming power.
Plus, that Sony is guaranteed to be much, much, slower than what you have... the screen resolution isn't even any better.

It always baffles me why people take temps like that and not report the actual hardware temps. :$ And yet.. very few reviews check this. Who cares how hot the notebook gets so long as the hardware is ok.. Does anyone know the actual cpu/gpu/hdd temps?

Considering the what you get, I would say that it is quite the opposite. Compare it to e.g. the Lenovo X300.

I saw this laptop in a Futureshop store today and really like it. However, it's not on the Futureshop.ca anymore.. does anybody knows what's going on?? Are they planning on discontinuing it? The salesrep had no clue why it was not longer on the site. Thanks!

It's out of stock, so they've taken it off. Whatever is left at FS's physical stores is what is left. LG Canada seems to have a large backorder of them from what I hear...

I remember when it was listed on the site long ago.. but it is true due to the high demand Futureshop does not list it no more.

Can anyone recommend a good hard case that would fit the P300 and it's powersupply but little else? Something really slim that doesn't add much bulk to the laptop but provides more protection than a standard neoprene-nylon case would.
    Cheers.

    Hi,

I also have very impressed when i saw LG P300 on store. Until then i am still reading reviews and trying to decide between LG p300 and Sony SZ ??

I have read very helpful reviews on that topic here. But really didnt see and real comparison between SZ and P300. am i missing someting here? or maybe because Dell and IBM are not populer in my country i have only Sony SZ option on hand to compare with LG..

    Now i have list of my ups and downs with that two. i would like to share;

    SONY SZ:
    + DVD-RW on board
+ LCD looks better quality and has anti reflection coating.
+ General bult quality look better.
    + Better battery life.
+ Desing looks better for me

    LG-P300
+ Lighter compared to standart SZ (LG:1.60kg, Sony SZ non carbon fiber 1.79kg)
+ Has HDMI. (I want that to have FullHD output to LCD)
    + Better graphics card (SZ:GF8400 P300:GF8600)
+ Mini USB could be useful

    Common specs:
    - Core 2 Duo T7500 İşlemci (LG P300 sells with 7500 in Turkey, sony with 7500 has better price so i stuck with that i guess)
    - Mobile Intel® PM 965 Express
    - 2GB RAM
    - 160GB HD
    - Price of SZ and P300 is same on that specs.

On my daily use graphics and CPU performance is not key thing for me. Both works fine for me. Most annoying thing on SZ is that i can not have HDMI even with docking station. If i buy docking, i still need a converter (DVI to HDMI if works?) + additional audio cable to laptop is another annoying thing after paying that money to docking.

And i trust Sony for better overal quality and stability (at least on SZ series), i dont know if i am wrong?

May i have your opinions on SZ <-> P300 comparison?

    Hello Memox,

I had the same dilemma as you when I first got my P300. I read lots of reviews on the Sony SZ. I was going to buy the SZ until I found out that there is a major problem with the touchpad. Well, even not everyone faces the same problem but having such problems have made me buy something else.

I prefer the P300 over the SZ is not just the Touchpad problem but it is lighter and cooler (heat). I don't think the CD is a problem because I hardly uses it. I only use it to backup or install software. I guess it will be different for gamers who needs their CD plugged in all the time. I looked at both screens in the shops and there is very little difference. Battery life is good, 3 & 1/2 hours. We have a different spec here in HK. Mine is a T9300, 4GB RAM, 1GB Turbo RAM and 250GB HDD. The specs are better than the SZ for nearly the same price. Also, you get a Multi Memory Card Slot which is missing on the SZ.

Mine scored a 5.1 Windows Experience Index Base Score. Don't know if that matters. Hope this helped!

    Cheers!

make sure to check out the BenQ S41 series before consider this over priced LG.

the BenQ is more widely avialble and it is much cheaper , it 's 14.1 but is as small as this LG with the same GPU/CPU combination, plsu , the BenQ has the GDDR3 so it should be a bit faster than this LG.......

also , the BenQ lets you choose either SESU Linux 8.1 or Vista P.

Uhhh...my 15.4" Macbook Pro is just as small as the BenQ S41 and much slimmer. You also do realize that the BenQ S41 weighs 2.3kg whereas the P300 is only 1.65kg?

Do you work for BenQ? I saw your post elsewhere on threads for the P300. Can you tell me what are the pros and cons of the S41 compared to the P300? No good telling us the price, there are many notebooks that are cheaper than the P300.

oh , really? well, the BenQ is less than 1k.........have you ever know that. did you know the BenQ has the NV8600GS with 256mb GDDR3 and costs less than a grand.

macbook pro? well, I dont pay for just a name or so-called sophisticated or elegant design, I pay for feature and speed.

sorry, mac is not my kind.

and I think you should not comare a 2 grand laptop like a macbook pro that only attract niche market to a small and powerful but cheap and well built laptop like the BenQ or Dell Vostro1310.

the more expensive , the better logic not always applied , why is a mac so expensive? cause only one company allowed to make it with so called premium design.

it is the design and name not feature and power, so I do not like a mac and I think this very rarely found LG also is so expensive because it is not available world wide and not making enough profit , but it is nothing special.

it is 1.65kg and a bit lighter than the 600us cheaper BenQ?

so what? 500g or 1.2lbs worth the 600us more?

I think not , are you not able to carry a notebook of 2.3 kg but able to carry a notebook of 1.65 which gets really hot and unstable ?

it is not that different , Ithink.

if weight is only your concern ,then there are many better options: the great EE PC, the Lenovo X300 ,the Panasonic CF Y7, the Toshiba R500 ,the Sony TZand the HP Mini Note.

they are all better than this LG or any of Macbook in terms of pure portability and mobility.

Apple built better , I dont think so. I think the Dell Vostro 1310 costs only 1k or so but it is built better than almost anything else.

the Apple design cool maybe to some. but I dislike the toy-ish look and odd apple style design (unserious)and all Dells are CUSTOMIZABLE, also there is the NEW HP DV3000CT , CT means you can CTO it.

design can not be rated or discuss objectively , so I think it is not important to rate it in any review, I personally dislike any review score it cause it is his or her personal taste and mine differs strongly.

I personally like Vostro design and I know it is just my personal taste.

Anything not CTO-able is a crap IMHO.

Does anyone know if I can put a 7200 RPM hard drive in the LG P300?

Also, I noticed it uses an nVidia chip... does the design properly ventilate so it does not have the over-heating problem of the m1330 or it not using the nVidia chip with the lower quality die?

Nice review indeed, seems as this is a very powerfull laptop.

On another side: is there any docking station available for this laptop?

Also, do you know any US stores that will sell this?

The price is not a problem, but I don't like the fact that there is no fingerprint reader on it(I got used to it's convenience) and (probably) no docking station.

    Hi,

I just checked futureshop.ca. The price of the P300 is now $1,599 Canadian. I'm thinking about ordering one to be sent to a friend in Ontario and have them send it on to me in the US. Good idea, or stupid idea?

futureshop offers two LG P300's, same price:

    P300-U.APW3A9 & P300-U.APB3A9

A comparison showed them to be effectively identical as far as I can see. Maybe the distinction is just the color? Someone on this list has a "brown" one, would that be what LG elsewhere calls "wine"? "Wine" sounds attractive, "brown" not so much.

Does anyone have something to add based on longer ownership? I wish this were available custom-built, to get more memory, but the speed tests indicate it doesn't need more now.

I didn't read the specs closely enough. Not only is the price down to 1,599 CA$, but these machines come with 4 gigs of memory! No need for an upgrade. How can you not buy one?

I just picked up this laptop at futureshop a few weeks ago and I love it. I was just wondering, does LG or anywhere else sell a spare battery? I have long classes, and although the battery life is decent, i wouldnt mind an extra battery. Also, would it be worthwhile to get a SSD for this notebook? would it help the battery life, or is it better to wait?

Try searching ebay for a battery.

For the battery life a SSD won't help much. The best SSDs help a little but some SSDs actually shorten battery life.

thx but no luck on ebay, the P300 isnt really a big name in North America yet lol, so no one sells batteries for it =( I contacted LG and they said they could sell me one for 187.02 + tax and shipping.... which is kinda of a lot lol, maybe ill bear with it for now.

Are there any good upgrades that i can make to the laptop? is there anything i can put in the expresscard/34 slot? Also, is there any sort of OS or preboot application that can allow me to do word processing before vista boots up, in order to save battery life? like expressgate on the asus notebooks?

The only thing missing from this laptop (imo) is a firewire connection which I need to get video from my old videocam. There are many low cost firewire expresscards/34 if you need.

Sigh, if only they sold this laptop in the USA. :(
I would love to see the Vaio Z with the P300's videocard, and I don't mind having an external optical drive.

Will it soon be updated to Montevina or has it already been updated?

is there anyway i can connect the vga to composite or svideo or something, i have an older tv. Also, i read somewhere about someone saying you could underlock the P300 to get more juice out of the battery? has anyone tried this, and if so how much more did it give you?

i think there are adapters out there for VGA to svideo or even HDMI to svideo... someone correct me if im wrong.

i just got my P300 and i haven't really looked into underclocking or undervolting. i got 4.5 hours of battery life while working (running word, excel, adobe) just by playing around with batterymiser and with bluetooth and wireless off. with wireless on i get about 4 hours or so.

Has anyone successfully overclocked their LG P300's 8600m GS using any driver beyond 169.04 (Laptopvideo2go)?

I've tried extracting the video BIOS from the notebook using a variety of third-party tools, but they all fail due to no detection of any present VGABIOS.

It seems that overclocking has been locked on the P300 for any driver beyond 169.04, and I'm having a hard time trying to find a solution to fixing it, seeing as many modern games would benefit from the later 17x series of drivers (without having to edit the system BIOS directly, since if VGABIOS can't be extracted, then it mostly is embedded within the system BIOS, something I'd rather not touch directly).
