The Lenovo ThinkPad T470s and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (5th generation/2017) are two of Lenovo’s premium 14-inch business notebooks. Their price points tend to be almost identical, and they’re both relatively thin and light. What we’ll look at in this article is the key areas where they differ, and why you may want to choose one over the other.

When I reviewed the X1 Carbon and T430s back in the day, I thought the thicker T430s offered the better keyboard of the two, probably due to the increased thickness allowing for more key travel. Granted the T470s and X1 Carbon of today are probably more similar, so difference may be less noticeable.

I thought the keyboard was better on the T460 than the X1 Carbon 4th gen, but this time around, I didn't feel much of a difference. I'm not sure if there even is one.

Looking at your benchmarking scores in individual reviews, it seems X1 Carbon is ever-so-slightly slower in the CPU performance department, but significantly slower in 3D Mark (713 vs 985): perhaps worth taking into consideration for users looking to drive external 4k screens or some such.

I guess underclocking the GPU is what gives it an edge in thickness and endurance.

The performance of these notebooks with Intel 15-watt CPUs is quite variable. It's most sensitive to the CPU thermal and power profiles. The X1 Carbon probably heats up faster and isn't able to maintain its CPU clocks as aggressively as the T470. That's an educated guess.
That shouldn't affect the notebook's ability to power external monitors, however, no matter the resolution.

I think it's generally accepted that the WQHD screen is better quality wise than the FHD. Unless you're bumping up to a quad core, I doubt whether it's i5 or i7 makes much of a difference. Since it's less expensive, the i5 probably offers more value. Price depends on a lot of factors, where you're located being a big factor.

Sorry to hear about your notebook. Good luck and welcome to NBR.
