The Lenovo IdeaPad U550 is an ultra-thin 15.6-inch multimedia notebook with a low voltage processor and ATI graphics. Read our review to see how it fared.

nice review... tho I have to say this machine appears to be like every other consumer laptop... cheap.

a thin 15inch is a nice surprise still waiting for a 15incher to be as thin as a MBA and still maintain it's quality.

To be fair, this costs around $800-900 on Lenovo's site, so it is "decent" for the price.

The 1366x768 screen resolution is unforgivable on a screen as large as 15.6 inches though. That is my #1 reservation about this machine (and most other 15.6" consumer notebooks ).
1600x900 would have been a lot better but I would have much preferred the now defunct 1680x1050 resolution found on 16:10 aspect ratio displays. Great res for a 15.x" screen . . .

I am kind of puzzled why Lenovo uses a Radeon HD 4330 with their U450p/U550; it runs noticeably warmer than the integrated GMA 4500MHD; while its performance is better, it can't really run any newer games. It probably helps with HD video decoding but I didn't have any problems doing that with the 4500MHD. I used the 4500MHD 99% of the time while reviewing the U550; better battery life and less heat.

The Y560 was for sale for $699 on the Canadian site a little while ago with coupons. Now that's a steal... base model, of course, i3 and HD5730. I guess that's the key to buying Lenovo's, don't get them for full price, look for coupons.
