Spot on. Having had both the X200 and X200s, I can confirm this.

Thanks to all those who replied. A few more questions, if you don't mind. The tech specs for the X200 state that the 6-cell running Vista gets 6.2 hours while the 9-cell gets 9.4 hours. What has been your actual experience in battery life?

I have found weight and battery life to be quite important for my purposes. My current ThinkPad T61 with a 6-cell battery weighs about 6 pounds. But with the poor battery life (only an 1.5 hours if I'm lucky), I am forced to carry the AC adapter. Anything to lighten my back and gets me about 4-5 hours on battery would be more than acceptable. Many thanks again.

Although manufacturer battery life specs are usually on the optimistic side, I would say that Lenovo is not far off in this case.

My X200 2.4GHz with the 6-cell battery will run approx. 4.5 hours with internet via WLAN and office apps at 1/3 brightness and medium power management settings. With some idling in between - but this is not exact science anyway.

You won't find many laptops with the footprint and specs of the X200 being able to provide that kind of battery life - without using a bigger battery similar to the 9-cell.

Many thanks for the reply. I'll think about choosing between the 6 or 9 cell a bit more. I will also look at the lighter and less powerful x200s. With Lenovo's Thanksgiving sale on its ThinkPads, I'm pretty set on getting either the x200 or x200s.

    You won't regret it.

The X200(s) is the best ultraportable I've ever had. It is fast, light and runs extremely cool. Get one with a SSD or retrofit it. Then you will have the perfect ultraportable.
