is it sure that there will be a hdd available too?
-
yes, 120GB, 5400rpm

LINK 2 (under "quality" it refers to APS with HD models) -
but other diagrams says it only take 1.8" drives. so usuallay they are no sata drives available for that size and it would make sense, since this is the usual size for a sdd drive...
-
Alright, thats just weird....1.8" drives are 4200rpm units. 120GB is definitely reasonable (look at the 160GB iPod), but 5400RPM is either wrong (typo), or they've got something like the TZ, where they can swap out the optical drive for a 2.5" HDD. Or somebody developed a 5400RPM 1.8" HDD and forgot to tell everyone but Lenovo.
-
so who has valid information about if a hdd will be available and what hdd?
-
Lenovo's engineering team.
-
Just because the SSD is 1.8" doesn't necessarily mean that the HDD must be 1.8" also. The SSD is 1.8" and the HDD may be 2.5". There has been no information suggesting that there is NOT room for a 2.5" drive.
-
Nope, looks like there really is a 1.8" 120gb 5400rpm hard drive by Samsung. Can't wait to see this get in more ultraportables,

but pata is slower than sata, right?
-
Man, for an ultraportable, they really need to have a 2.5" HD and do away with an internal ODD.

That review is exceedingly brief! No new information either...aside from the one new picture that I haven't seen yet
The reviewer also contradicts the powerpoint slides which states that a regular HDD will be an optional configuration. -

Surprised he didnt comment on how silver is a more aesthetically pleasing color than black and thus is a negative point of the X300. I want to barf after reading any of his reviews, since everything is always a Mac vs whatever he is correctly reviewing review.
Oh and his macbook air review was nice, nothing in any of his reviews even point to him having the thing in his hands.
EDIT: forgot the important
towards mossberg

x300 is sexier than mba.

Yeah I've the same sentiment towards this "reviewer" (using the term losely). From his article on the X300 it seems that he wants to give the impression that he has it in his possession for review, but the content of his review suggests otherwise. Basically he copied and pasted info on the X300 that is available at other review sites, and like I mentioned, seems to give *incorrect* info on the availability of a regular HDD configuration. This guy really does sound like a douchebag.

The photo http://mossblog.allthingsd.com/files/2008/02/x300_small.jpg looks like mirror-flipped...

If you want a big "wtf" moment, watch his Macbook Air video review, he talks about it and shows apple stock video. None of his reviews even show that he has a product in hand, beyond spouting off stats. Hell I cant even figure out if any of his reviews were done with products in hand.

"for the past few days I've been testing Apple's newest computer..."
I lol'ed
It is hard to believe that a Wall Street Journal columnist is straight up lying, but that "review" doesn't inspire any confidence whatsoever that he has actually done a legitimate review of the product. What a twat. -
so 26th is the date.
storagewise, what means FDE?

I have a couple of questions that someone might be able to answer?
The x300 will have a ULV processor right? Is it possible to fit a LV or even a normal C2D in notebook? I know the heat would probably make it not work, or else they would have done it already. I am just wondering.
Do we know the model of the ssd that will be bundled with the x300? It would be nice to see some specifications on that ssd. If you buy a 7200rpm disk it doesnt matter which brand, in a benchmark with other 7200rpm disks the results are very very close. This is not the case with ssd as they have so very spread results in write/read speed and so on.
I am a little confused, could someone verify the following:
Wireless wide network, is that just a nice way of saying that you can insert your sim card and connect with 3g/hsdpa?
The x300 does have wlan with g/n right?
And what is wimax? I tried to wikipedia it, but I only got confused...
Anyone want to speculate on my chances getting a X300 march-april in California. (Im on vacation there then, would be nice to sneak it back home without customs etc
)
<daydream>
By the way, once modified a bit, this will be my background on the x300

A picture of a kodachi as wallpaper would also be neat.

the ssd is a samsung. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=57395 it has g/n wireless.
