It's old news I guess that the Lenovo Thinkpad W700 is about to be available in the UK (apparently October). It's a great spec for a portable video production suite.

Just wanted to find out if anyone knows of a similar spec machine coming out from other manufacturers...? (i.e. Core 2 Extreme, 8GB DDR3, 1GB Video, 1920x1200 resolution...)

Or is Lenovo on it's own..?

    Cheers,
    Ben

    Have you considered the D901C/9262?

I think that's got at least/better spec, especially since it's a desktop processor.

    Hi Meemat,

It's a good spec but that model Sager isn't as good as the w700, 8730w or the M6400. It seems like there's a generational step up about to happen in notebooks, with support for up to 8GB DDR3 RAM..

For those like myself, living in the UK, it sounds like October is the time to buy one of these desktop replacements.

I've been toying with making the switch to Mac, but I get the feeling that the new Mac Book Pro is not going to be spec'ed as high as the new generation of PC 'desktop replacements'... is that about right..?

Ah, I guess you're right, 8 GB DDR3 would be pretty awesome! I just figured you wouldn't be using more than 4, also processor-wise a 3.0gHz Quad Core would be crazy, but I guess RAM may slow that down.

Also, the 2x9800GTXs would mean 2x1024 MB of video ram; I just hope they update the 9262 to the new platform.

However, I'm really just hope the 9262 gets upgraded to a Nehalem platform.

    Good Luck with your search!

vista can only use 6.2 due to a chipset problem, so whats the point of 8GB

Is that just an issue with a particular chipset? I think the DELL M6400 is going to be supporting a massive 16GB via Vista x64....

Vista can use up to 128GB of RAM. You will be able to see all 8GB of RAM with the current chipsets.
