hrmm.. 250m.. disappointing unless the price is much lower than the Sager. Other than that, looks decent. Glad to see more i7 lappys getting announced.

Pretty sure gddr3 is a mistake on Msi's part, it should be gddr5.Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015

Would a GTS 250M with GDDR5 outperform a GTX 260M with GDDR3 though?

It actually COULD be DDR3 there is both a DDR3 and DDR5 version of this GPU. I know the new Qosmio has the DDR5 version im not sure. With MSI it is always hard to get accurate info.

I think it looks pretty nice. They packed the i7 and a high end GPU into a package under 6 lbs, and MSI has always been cheaper than Sager/Alienware while still offering good performance. For instance, while Sager was selling the NP8662 for starting at $1300, the MSI came up with a great package in the GT628 with a GTS 160m (which performs only a little worse than the GTX 260m) and all the trimmings for only $1250.
-
^^ not to mention the msi laptops are quite a bit thinner and more mobile.
No they will not outperform a gtx 260. The gts 250 and 260 should be comparable to the 9800m gts and 9800m gt or to the underclocked asus gtx 260's. The new GTS cards are not meant to compete with the gtx 260 and 280, they would compete more with a 9800m gs and 9700m gts which they should easily outperform and run much cooler. -
How's the build quality of MSI? Any overheating problems with its previous models?
-
MSI makes very solid computers.
-
No LED back light and only 4G memory? Everything else looks great to me, especially the weight and low power consumption 250M.
-
Well, at least it has DDR3 RAM. Someone posted an article from Fudzilla stating it had DDR2. The new touch sensor looks better, but unfortunately the keyboard doesn't look like it's gotten any better.
If the 250m does indeed come with GDDR3, then this one's the GX620's successor, not the GT627.
EDIT: Just noticed they have the EX628 listed with the HD 4670...with DDR2 VRAM. Wow, they castrated that poor thing. -

That says nothing about a 240, lol
I think you mean the GT640

Same low weight and made even better with PM55/i7/1333 RAM, but it's not necessarily a better gamer than the GT628. The GDDR3 GTS 250 is 128 bit, meaning it's a mid range card with a lot shaders. It's no better than a 64 shader 256 bit 9800 GTS, that's for sure.
-
If it's GDDR3, GDDR5 would be almost as GDDR3 256bits.
-
So it's a GT 130M with 3x the shaders? Nvidia should have marketed the GDDR3 GTS 250M as the replacement for the current mid-range cards from the get go, and drop the incremental GT 240M.
-
I just don't see them putting 98 shaders on a 128 bit buss card without gddr5.
-
It's using the same core as the GTX260M, 280M IIRC.
-
No, it uses a 40nm G200 core w/ 28w consumption.
-
Depending on how this is priced it could become a good balance between gaming notebooks and general mainstream laptops.
-
96 shaders and 28W? That is awesome.
