Finally! Today Microsoft has launched their "Get Ready" campaign and are offering a tool to analyze your system and tell you if you meet the upcoming Vista's hardware requirements. More here at Microsoft's website.
Mods: Sorry if this has posted elsewhere, but I didn't see anything when I did a search a few minutes ago.

"Congratulations! Your PC can run the core . . " was what I got.
Looks like a tool for the average consumer . . you can tell by reading it. I can understand why Microsoft is doing it - easy to understand, everything 'works better'. Although I'd prefer it to be hardcore technical, I think it is a big plus that it is easy to understand for the majority of Windows users.

I totally agree Chaz. And now we finally have something official and easy to link to when the inevitable "Can my/this notebook run Vista?" question comes up.
EDIT: BTW, my results showed the same thing. It does have some expandable trees in the result that give a few more specifics, but nothing really detailed. Mine was good on everything except the requirements to diplay high def video and hook up to a TV (which I already knew. Thanks, MS). Also warned me that there may not be a Vista driver available for my Go7400.

I get...
Does this mean I am ready for Vista? -
So ready the tool couldn't handle it!
Well, they did say it was a beta....

Dammit!
It says that cause I don't have 15GB free space available, it won't tell me if I can run Vista or not!
This is an outrage!
And it made me install .NET too!
I demand answers! Now!

Wow, didn't realize that (since I already had .NET 2.0 installed). But that does seems a little excessive.

Works for my lappy, cool

Apparently half of my drivers don't exist for Vista yet. But It's still telling me Windows Vista Ultimate is the perfect OS for me. I also don't meet the requirement to hook up to a high deff TV. One of theres recommendations for this is to go buy an XBox 360. Gotta love this.

What the heck does that have to do with your notebook meeting Vista compatibility requirements? Unless there's some way you can hook up to HDTV via an XBox 360. But still, that really reeks of marketing.

it'd be funny if it said my lappy didn't meet requirements, totally defying the darn "vista capable" sticker
