New Images of Adamo XPS Notebook Surface
Dell today released two new images of its Adamo XPS ultra-thin notebook, which measures only 9.99 mm thick. Information on the Adamo XPS other than the pictures is non-existent at the moment, though more will be released in the coming weeks.

Of course, the real question is: How well is that going to work as a "laptop" computer? I can't imagine the elevated, drop-down keyboard will be particularly comfortable on the lap ... but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
-
it's cool but really... whats the point?
-
-
nice but beyond my financial ability and rationality...

More pictures but still no specs. This is a Dell publicity stunt and should be treated as such.
-
*Cough* niche product *Cough*
-
Well in that case I'm not as interested. Imagine how silly you would look in a coffee shop with one of these...
And let's admit it, that's the only reason why you would get one in the first place. -
-
Can't imagine how bad keyboard flex would be on this one... I mean, from what it seems, the only thing that is supporting it is the palmrest and the screen. Also can't imagine the kind of stress the hinge must take, supporting all that pressure.

I saw the pics yesterday on a news website.
Though it is impressive the thinness, where the *insert insult here* are the ergonomics?
That looks like a VERY uncomfortable laptop to use...
Unless I am getting it wrong. Which one is the KB on that pic? Vertical or horizontal? -

That looks cool.
I actually thought it was a Wifi Antenna -

Heat sensing automatically opening lid... interesting? Definitely. Practical? Probably not. -
Ahbeyvuhgehduh Lost in contemplation....
Weird....
Maybe the machine is meant to lie down flat on a table? that is - both the screen and the fold away keyboard? So you would be looking down at the screen while typing?
Can't imagine what would prevent it from breaking otherwise.... -
Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
$2000 for this? I'll pass.
-
Kudos to Dell there, as ridiculous as we may think it is too buy one, its still quite a feat of engineering.
-
Looking at the top edge of the screen due to the sharpness of it you may not be able to use it in an airplane. Especially if it is metal.
-
Its definitely a niche/halo product that is only meant to get 'oohhs and ahhhs' with its unique features. Some will sell to people who absolutely want to make a statement with their possessions, but mostly it will just be an eye candy that can make the Dell brand look better... and eventually some of these features, if popular, might trickle down to more affordable machines.
No question about the design though- this thing is either going to sink or swim. -
-
Indeed it is thin, but I dont think you will be able to game on that thing.
-
No of course not, just thought mentioning CoD was funny
-
Then why the **** did Dell call this XPS?!?!?!
For its thinness? FAIL!
It should be the same size, or smaller screen and body, but same thickness, and A GOOD PERFORMANCE! -
EDIT: Dell has added better specs to the more expensive "Desire" configuration of the Adamo, though. See here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/19/dell-adamo-desire-gets-2-1ghz-core-2-duo-sl9600-256gb-ssd/ -
Defintely a pricey Dell, but its sharp looking. IMHO it reminds me of a macbook air?
-
The new specs on the Adamo are pretty impressive... 2.1 GHz Core 2, 256 GB SSD, 4GB RAM... for $2300... its almost an Envy 13.
-
I would sooner buy a Macbook Pro 13" than an Adamo.
(and I despise Apple!)
I think the Adamo takes mindless elitism to a whole new level (more than Apple has).
Who cares how thin it is? Does everyone have to slip one into a manila envelope?
It's underpowered and overpriced. Dell may as well put an Apple logo on it. -
The new specced old Adamo would have been a bigger hit if they introduced it earlier, now that the envy 13 is here the Adamo kinda losses the little flair it had to begin with, if it had not integrated graphics and lower price I would consider it since it would be more on par with the envy
-
The "old" Adamo just got bumped to a faster 2.1ghz CPU, and it is now available.
-
A few posts too late, Serg
-
LOL!! I was asleep! Not fair!!
Still good news, finally the Adamo has some power!
If this goes in the Adamo, what will go in the XPS variant? -
The old parts from the previous adamo models
-
I hope not. A premium for a 1.2 CULV? Bah.
FAIL!!!!!
And what is the "XPS" thing there for then?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
to attract buyers, xps has moved from performance to luxury lately
-
what could be the name of new super thin adamo?
fever? someone comes up with a good one must rhyme with admire and desire.
gosh, im falling in love with this laptop already, 13.3" screen, only 0.39" thick(1cm?) and possibly 1.6-2 lbs.
according to some googled news, its set to launch on 10/22/09, thursday. -

yea., engadget has the pix, but no details of the laptop, size, weight, specs, etc.
the video sneak peek has 10 second play time -
A pointlessly thin product.
-
That is really, really, really, really stupid. So what do we have now, a multitouch LCD bezel that opens only with the horizontal scrolling gesture?
What's next? Keyboard is going to come out only with a three finger swipe? -
Very expensive silly gadget.
Perhaps desirable for those with plenty of money to burn and an empty desk to show it off. -
I think I would stick with the Adamo not xps
-
I cant believe the "chin" this thing has!!
IT IS HUGE!!
I wonder how the structural integrity will hold on when typing on this. -
am i the only one on this forum actually get excited about this product, i think its great, a true mobile laptop for the upcoming wimax.
abou the keyboard, if it has touch screen, the keyboard wont be used much. -
my guess is that the CPU is mounted on the chin thing there...the KB looks to thin to really hold something. Doesnt look very user-upgradeable friendly either...
