Select HP laptops exposed to hacking

A security researcher has found that one of the ActiveX controls used in the HP Info Center on some HP laptops could allow remote hackers to attack the laptop and make registry changes. HP has not said anything in response to the claim. What this all boils down to is that if a victim went to a specifically-created website, the ActiveX controls could be compromised. If the machine is compromised, the hacker could install malware, change registry information, and steal data to name a few. A list of the laptops that could be at risk can be found here.

ompal Electronics had strong notebook shipments of 2.35 million units in November, but revenues dropped due to a change in the lineup of clients and products. it's rc1, not the final release.

someone should probably clarify this in the title, otherwise it may be misunderstood.

I highly doubt that anyone would make a site just for getting into an HP computer. I still love mine (though it's inability to play cs_office on high ticks me off).

More likely than not that HD 2700 is going to be much different than the HD 2600. In fact, it looks like the difference between the HD 2700 and HD 2600 is probably less than the X1700 and X1600. The X1700 at least moved to a strained silicon 90nm process compared to the bulk 90nm process of the X1600 although I don't think the power savings were huge. Since the HD 2700 only mentions regular 65nm like the HD 2600, the only difference is likely that the HD 2700 is produced at UMC compared to the HD 2600 which I'm pretty sure is made at TSMC. Similar to how the RV516 was produced as 90nm at UMC compared to the older RV515 which was 90nm fabbed at TSMC.

YEah I agree Nvidia 8700GT still owns the high end gpu market.

Note: the 8800GTX is classified as performance.

What form factor will we see the HD 2700 in? Will it be able to take over the current 14" 8600GT GDDR2?

You might see it in some 15.4" notebooks as well, but as with the X1700, I doubt that this will be a common GPU. Hell, even the HD2600 isn't all that common - the 8600M really took all the market away from ATI, who had it with the X1600 before.

Anyone know when to expect the final release of SP1? February 2008? I assume the RC version will be tested for at least a month or two - maybe more?

Definitely next year. It's definitely going to be out at the same time as Windows Server 2008 (RTM).

M1530 jumped almost 300 points after SP1. New PCMark05 is 5717, with the previous being 5412.

Many things in general are smoother, hard to narrow down on exactly what changed. Some parts just load faster period, less lag in some cases.

I heard a Toshiba laptop will have the ATI 3850. I believe it was a 15.4" laptop. And anyone who knows Japenese can they check the Toshiba website if it has come out yet. I checked but I couldn't get around the website. It should be out by now in Japan. ( Man I wish I lived in Japan so cool there)!
