Nvidia GeForce 8800M on the horizon?

According to Fudzilla the mobile variant of Nvidia's GeForce 8800 high-end graphics card will be launched "soon" - no specific date was given.

The 8800M will be available in 8800M-GTX, -GT, and -GS versions according to earlier reports. It will not have the performance of the desktop version due to notebook power and heat requirements. The 8800M will reportedly be available in Dell's upcoming XPS M1730 gaming notebook.

Crysis demo to be released Sept. 25

The long-awaited first person shooter title Crysis is finally going to make a showing - the single player demo is slated for release on September 25. The demo will feature the entire first level in the game's single player campaign.

Even though the game is nearing release, there are no official system requirments posted yet. However, expect to need an Athlon 64/higher-clocked Pentium 4 processor, Nvidia 6600/ATI X800 series graphics card, and 1GB of RAM to run the game. Ideally, have a dual-core processor, high-end Nvidia or ATI graphics card (7800GTX/X1800XT), and about 2GB of RAM to comfortably play the game at higher settings.

The full version of Crysis is going to be released on November 16.

More Sony rootkits?

Sony's MicroVault USM-F fingerprint reading software comes with an infected USB flash memory stick according to F-Secure. There is no indication that Sony had malintent with the software unlike the previous Sony BMG Music CD case. The rootkit in this case was most likely to make the software ore secure.

Fortunately, the MicroVault is an older product and has been basically phased out.

wow, you must really want a powerful G2 :) have to agree though, the G2 shouldn't be the same as the G1... I mean, going up to 17 from 15.4 should bring a performance gain ... not stay the same.

How does my 8600M GT in the G1S compare to the video cards listed in the requirements for Crysis? Can I play it on medium settings at least?

The 8600M GT is a little less powerful than the Go 7900GS, which is about the same as a desktop 7600GT. So, if you keep it in DX9 mode, you should be able to get about medium settings. If you want DX10 though, I highly doubt you're going to like the framerates.

its disappointing that Nvous is using last year's generation of Compals rather than the current one

One of the many reasons I don't purchase anything Sony unless I can't avoid it...they're untrustworthy at best IMO.

Even more disappointing... their upgrades are ridiculously expensive, and they don't ever tell you what graphics cards they feature (leading me to believe GMA950).

Alright, time to see if this 7900GTO can still play more recent games and at what settings. It may be time for an upgrade soon.

People have tested Crysis demos with a Toshiba x205 in DirectX 10 mode which has a 8700M GT. And I've heard that it runs very beautifully. The 8700M GT is merely an overclocked 8600M GTm so I wouldn't doubt the power of this little 8600M GT just yet.

Hey man, I hope so. I'm just going off what the recommended specs have been saying. But yeah, the less overhead it has the better.

hmm.... the Fudzilla site (as well as other sites) might have jumped the gun (from Dell marketing).

If they are talking about the new NB8E G80 chip... thats going to be the 8700M GTX rumored to be out in Winter.... people have thought that Nvidia would have named that 8800M.... but drivers for the 8700M GT has shown that it was using the NB8E name already.

Marketing is marketing... most of them know jack about the technology and justs goes on rumors....

We'll just see.... it would be nice to see a 256-bit mem interface, DX10 card.

The M1730 was rumored just this week to have the 8700M GT... I suppose they will offer it with dual 8700's and 8800's.

The 8600M GT is about 30-40% slower than the desktop version of the 8600M GT. I suppose that will be the case with the 8800's. Still though, SLI 8800's should get about the same as a single desktop 8800. 3dmark06 scores of over 10k!

I'll be downloading the Crysis trial when it comes out! :D

Call me paranoid but I don't think the 8800M exists anymore , and now we will never find out because no one will buy the XPS M1730 anyway .

Seriously , I hope this thing is coming out soon and that its not a DELL exclusive .

NVous has made the HGL30 not look hideous! Bravo! Now if they made their upgrades have less ambitious pricing and started using Santa Rosa Compals, we might be talking.
