Toshiba Qosmio G30 to Come With FIFA 2006 World Cup Ticket

The Core Duo powered Toshiba Qosmio was unveiled at CES 2006 (Qosmio G30 at CES 2006) where at the time it did not have a name, but now it does and it's the Qosmio G30. This will be a high sticker price notebook when it hits the shelves, but in Germany Toshiba is trying to sweeten the deal for buyers by including a ticket to a World Cup 2006 game. The FIFA World Cup is in Germany this year of course, so the lucky Germans won't have to travel too far to use a ticket they get via this offer. Specs on the G30 should be something likeIntel Core Duo 2.17GHz / 1024MB RAM/ 200GB HD/ 17-inch TFT / DVDRW / WinXP Media Center / $3,000.

Intel Santa Rosa Architecture for March 2007

Intel released its dual core processors in January, and in September / October they'll release their dual core 64-bit processors, code named Merom. In March 2007 Intel will introduce its new Santa Rosa platform that will be used in conjunction with the new Merom chips, the Santa Rosa platform will provide a faster 800MHz Front Side Bus (this allows faster transfer of information between the processor and RAM). Furthermore, the Santa Rosa platform will likely support the newly approved 802.11n wireless standard that will provide greater wi-fi range and much higher wireless throughput rates (up to a theoretical 600MBps) than the current 54MBps that 802.11g supports.

Analyst Says Dell Will Have AMD Processors in Notebooks by March, NotebookReview.com Says Analyst is 100% Wrong

We're all a littlesick of hearing about Dell and AMD possibly hooking up and having an AMD processor in a Dell machine. The Register reports that an Analyst from American Technology Research named Doug Freedman in a note to customers says Dell will start putting AMD chips in notebooks by March. Analysts and Wall Street types are usually betting types, I wonder if he'd be willing to bet on this forecast?

Intel! Still using a FSB, even into 2007? Come on now . . . my next computer is AMD for sure.

Beautiful paintings, I believe you can get those paint jobs from Falcon Northwest [boutique]. They have them avaliable on their website. Very expensive, of course, but gorgeous. If I had my notebook painted like that . . well, I would probably never move it, no matter how small - don't want to scratch it!

 

Yeah, liked the anime cover. Checked the website and they make custom covers for the XPS too. I wonder if they make for the Inspiron 9300/9400 too.

By the way, the Satelite P100 features a Nvidia video card, which one? It says here Go 730 (?). Does it mean the 7300?

No, notebooks (at this point at least) will be available with Merom in about 10 Months. Merom comes out around September - October. And it should be in Notebooks around November. Santa Rosa is next year.

I noticed that the G30 Qosmio pic from CES2006 features an HD-DVD ROM.... whereas the article stated that it only has DVD+-RW. what gives?

No - that is a common misconception. AMD uses a much simpler, faster, and more efficent HyperTransport link. It is much different than a FSB.

 

good question, there's no mention of it in any specs on the toshiba japan site where it's announced but i'd assume it'll be an option, maybe just not in the sku we can see now
