I'm wondering if the $1900 price tag is a 1st April special given the recent report that Intel is promising cheaper Ultrabooks.

After all the positive press Samsung got for the 2560x1440 prototype Series 9, I'm surprised they didn't go with that for the prodution version. Not that I think 1080p is inadequate, particularly on a 13" screen, but "more is better" certainly is a successful sales tactic (1080p smartphones and eight-speed car transmissions, for example).

The price is indeed a farce. Before Sony discontinued the Z, you could get a Z with a 1080p screen, similar dimensions, a full-power CPU, a RAID-0 SSD array, and an external GPU, all for a bit less than $1900. And you can get a 1080p Dell XPS 13 for $1,399.

2560 x 1440 on a 13.3" screen sounds great on paper, but Windows' scaling is poor and the smallest screen size IMO for 1080p resolution is 11.6". The Surface Pro's 10.6" 1080p screen looks great when watching videos, but the scaling has to be adjusted continuously between 125 and 150 dpi to make it usable for spreadsheet, web browsing and the general office productivity scenario.

I really like the design on the 13.3" Series 9, but $1900 is awfully high even with the 256 GB SSD. If Samsung is not going to bump the RAM up to 8 GB and use the newer i7 3537U processor, this model should have been no more than $1600.

The just released (but who knows where you can get one?!) Samsung Series 7 Ultra seems to offer everything the new Series 9 does with slightly greater thickness offset by:

    1) user installable SSD and RAM up to 16GB on 2 SODIMMs
    2) full size ethernet and HDMI ports and 3 USB ports
    3) a touch screen (FHD, same exact model as in the Asus UX32VD)

    and...

a $999 price tag when it hits Best Buy sometime this month!

If the Series 9 and these reported Series 7 prices are accurate, I would say bye-bye 9 except for the executive toy set.

I agree, the series 9 doesn't hold up so well (practically speaking) versus the series 7 ultra.

Not to mention the ATIV Smart PC Pro seems overpriced when it's compared to the upcoming lenovo Helix.
