It's making there be less reasons to have wired over wireless as wireless will be getting much faster, according to that article. It'll be built around the upcoming Turion X2, that's why they mentioned it.

i don't know if you realize this, but the asus a6t is not available anywhere in north america as of yet. so it's actually not here. in fact this is the first time i have ever heard of this model.

ejl: Yeah, hence my WTF moment! :p

I think itguy was talking about the new wireless functionality as the "Holy Grail" but I was honestly more interested in the A6t (I guess the "t" designates the AMD proc?)

Anyways, I guess there's something to keep our eyes out for.

well, asus usually has a few built ons with amd chips. but they usually come with subpar gpus and seem to be fairly heavy....never as good as their intel model counterparts.

The "5X" is a bit misleading, this is the new wireless speed.

As for the Turion X2 true CPU speed advantange, that remains to be seen. From various guestimating benchmarks floating around, the present feeling is the Turion X2 will perform in the neighborhood of the low-end Athlon64-X2 (3800 or so). Which would not make it the "holy grail" of laptops, but at least a gold-press latinum chalis.

With the release date one week away (May 9th), we should see paper launches next week; actual delivery probably by Computex (early June). My guess (based on my own company's need) is the demand for 64-bit dual core notebook would be simply amazing; the Turion X2 should dominate the 5 lbs and up market.
