Hmm ... looks pretty "ordinary" afaict ... are there any other offerings on these machines that would make them more attractive than similar business machines in the same "genre"?

Toshiba Tecras over the past several years have failed to impress; the build quality was mediocre at best and the price too high, and on top of that they offered no notable features. I have not considered their business line competitive with HPs'/Dells'/Lenovos' in a long time. That said I have no hands-on experience with these latest models so I reserve judgment.

The pricing is odd on these models; it is above Dell's Vostro and HP's ProBook competing models yet is not that differentiated. At least, not that I can see.

    I get to
    and then skip the rest.

To me that display format is a step backwards from the 800 pixel high displays because any loss in height makes working with documents more tedious.

Unfortunately you will likely have to spend $1,000+ to get a 14" 1600x900 laptop, and there are not many choices . . . HP EliteBooks and Dell Latitudes come to mind.
16:9 is a very backwards step for productivity; for companies it is a way to save money. 16:9 is a reality that we have to live with it at this point though.

You can always lower the res you know, but i agree it is very stupid and its anti- produtive and hard to read files and pdf's, and 1080P is not fullhd its 1200P! Something i am missing with the G73JH.

The "Full HD" tag refers to HD movies, which are 1080p (even though most still have black bars). 1920x1200 is higher than "full HD".

For general not-technically-inclined consumers, the standardization of resolution naming conventions across TVs and computers is a good thing, but for the rest of us . . . quite annoying. 16:9 is a backwards step for productivity; it has become a reality we now have to live with, however.

    Not true.

Sony's CW line is going for $979 (formerly $949 when most of us bought it).

    Blue Ray players, 1600x900, I5 520 and a Nvidia 330M to boot.

I agree with everything else though. 1680x1050 at this screen size please :).
