Great news , btw Amazon had the "older" X205 for a lower price with 200$ rebates ,
whenever this happens you know something better is coming up .
But why only 8600GT when the 8700GT was used ?
Dell also just came out with the XPS m1730 sporting dual 8700 available at Dell site in hideous colors ,
And couldn't they do something about the lid color while at it ? -
also the base model for the 1730 is $2000
so it is just the same as the cheapest of these but with dual 8700mGT's
but this has better styling but if you were going for gaming, style would not be #1 -
Base Model for xps 1730 is 2,999
-
ahh true mustve read it as 1999
-
When was the 1730 released? I haven't seen it on Dell's site?
-
What about overal perfomance it is better than then the other 2 models with 8700M or is about the same because the video card is lower than the 8700M?
-
Hmm, interesting. They probably should have kept the 8700GT in the lower-end version and then upped it to dual 8700s in the high end, as opposed to switching to dual 8600GTs for all models. I'd like to see benchmarks, it doesn't seem like the dual 8600GTs would give all that much performance advantage over the single 8700.
-
well if there the GDDR3 versions then they will be almost the same as an 8700gt, and two would be closing in on a 7950gtx, if not the same.
-
that thing is huge.
-
narsnail
they are GDDR3 according to the pdf file on there site -
Just saw an X205 on dsiplay at Best Buy and the display was terrible. Poor viewing angles (vertical and horzontal), and contast/brightness. One of the worst glossy screens I've ever seen IMHO. Who'd pay top dough for such a computer? What's the purpose of having a top-notch gaming laptop if the screen quality is mediocre at best? Why not just buy a desktop instead if the user intends to plug it to an external moniter anyway? Kinda funny too, the P200 (which last time I checked is the same screensize at 17") has a way superior screen (still not the best, though it was still acceptable) than the one on the X205. Toshiba, if you want to cut corners to lower production costs, why not choose a GDDR3 GeForce 8600 GT instead? Gaming on such an ugly display totally beats the purpose of having an all-in-one desktop replacement... don't you think?

Ya...should have waited 3 weeks to have this SLI-dual gpu option.
Now my original x205 is dated liao, obsolete so much earlier than expected - just in merely 3 weeks
I hope the 8700m can still stands on its own...
-
-
My original X205 the screen's horizontal viewing angle is excellent.
The vertical ones are nothing to shout about.
Not sure if they had changed the LCD models in the new X205s... -
so... which is better? the SLI1 or the older model($2399)... im confused about getting one of them?
-
Doesn't Vista not support SLI yet anyway?
-
I don't get why toshiba chose to use the 8600GT cards for sli when the 8700GT was available in the original X205 model. It just makes no sense since dell is coming out with the xps m1730 with dual 8700GT cards as a competitor. IMO the WXGA resolution on most of the X205 models (except the most expensive model with WSXGA) is kind of low for gaming. It's weird why toshiba isn't using the highest specs for a gaming machine.
-
-
8700 sli laptops run about 3000. The x205 sli1 is 2000 and the x205 sli3 is 2,500
-
On Toshiba's website ( http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/toshibadirect.to?page=gaming&seg=HHO), they say that the X205 SLi, and SLi3 are the "#1 reviewed gaming platform in the world" Has any one seen any real reviews from anywhere yet? I'm dying to see a full review of these things.
-
I would like to point out that Toshiba did make two other noticeble changes to the new X205's. The first is the processors. SLi3 has a T7500 Dual Core 2 clocked at 2.2 GHz, while the SLi1 has a T7250 clocked at 2.0 GHz. That is compared with T7300 clocked at 2.0 GHz in the S3959 and the T7100 in the S3949 The other change is that the new X205's lack the 1 Gig of Intel turbo memory.

will the dual 8600M GT's be A LOT more powerful than my GDDR3 8700M GT 256MB?
-
Hmm logically seems so...
A single 8600m GT 256MB gets about 3600 3dmarks06.
So for a SLI with double the ram at 512MB should get on average 5000 - 7000 marks...maybe even hitting 9,000 if oc'ed.
when a single 8700m GT only managed about 4000 - 5000
Yap you are in my shoe...gotten just weeks too early.
If I know toshy going for SLI at the same price points in just 3 weeks, I should have waited
Why Toshiba should have let us have more options if its just 3 weeks ?!

i would like to believe that my "old" (lol only 2 weeks ago!) can at least keep up with the pace of the dual 8600gt's, if are not actually at the same level, or even better(which is highly unlikely)
why toshiba? why did you play with our feelings? (lol just kiddin'!)
-
Not to make you guys fell really bad, but Mc Mall has the x205 sli3 for 2349.Glad I held off buying
-
I am feeling so bad with my 3-week OLD x205 ;(
It's such a nice machine...I hope it will still hold very well despite the new entrants... -
And another news, some friend of mine told me he was reading a article about a gaming expo in Japan, showing stuff and games from Sony, Nintendo and new games etc, he read about Toshiba new gaming notebooks with the new 8800 and they say it maybe will be out by the beginning of this winter or holidays. Well thats mean that the new 2 SLI machine will been old pretty soon. I think is better just wait a little bit to buy a machine, Dell have new stuuf coming, Sager too and Alienware lower the prices and take out the ALX. Thats sounds like something is cooking in the kitchen and we just wait to see the menu...
-
uff, its hard to buy a notebook..
-
I know battery life isn't a deal breaker in these machines - But I think that battery life and and heat would be a lot better in the single 8700 Gt model.
I mean - for real - we've got an awesome machine - a machine that will toast most other notebooks on the market except for a handful of high - end machines owned only by people who hang out on this forum
Its not like a new model suddenly makes ours seem like a 386 DX 2 without the turbo button -
Yap. Hope the original X205 can still stand tall among the best...

I would like to have suggestions about a notebook for video editing in high resolution using Studio 11 ultimate.
Toshiba X205 is suitable for this application? Actually my choice is between the following notebook:
A) Dell Precision M6300
Intell Core 2 T7700 2.4Ghz, 800, 4Mb
2.0GB, 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (1 x 2048MB)
160GB (7,200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
256MB NVIDIA Picture FX 1600M Graphics Card
17,0 " UltraSharp Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200)
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW
HP Professional, SP2
B)Dell Inspiron 1720 (or analogous models as HP 9585)
Intell Core 2 T7700 or (T7500) 2.40 (2,2)GHz, 800,4Mb
2.0GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (1x2048)
320GB, 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (2X160GB)
256MB DDR2, NVIDIA® GeForce Go 8600M GT
17,0 " UltraSharp Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200)
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW
Vista Home Premium or Business (32Bit)
Questions
1) Is better two internal HD 5400rpm (solution B) or one HD 7200rpm eventually with a second external HD 7200rpm (solution A)?
2)XP Professional o Vista?
3) 2 GB RAM are enough or are necessary 4 GB?
Thanks in advances for your suggestions
