    Hello,

I decided to upgrade RAM to 1GB 256MB DDR (change 1 x 256MB DDR with 1 x1GB DDR) and to upgrade HDD. I hesitate: going for 160GB or 250GB?

I just don't know if the BIOS would support full capacity of 250GB, does anybody know it?

I have also sometimes problems with CD/RW. But finding a replacement would be hard as I suppose? Which models are supported besides famous Matsu****a which is hard to get in my country?

    Regards!

I think you're getting a bit confused here. RAM can be limited by BIOS and motherboard, and recognized RAM by operating system, however the only thing that can limit recognized hard disk size is its file system and NTFS (The norm with XP and Vista) supports well beyond 250GB.

EDIT: I stand corrected, just looked it up and there have been cases of BIOS limiting hard disk capacity. It seems to be with older machines, any manufacturer with half a brain nowadays would make sure this wouldn't be an issue. I'd google upgrading you laptop's hard disk and see what other people post here as well.

Yep, man. As you wrote: it is possible that BIOS limits HDD capacity, I had a similar case with desktop once. I'm affraid how does it look with Averatec. Their support is extremly poor. Knowing that laptop is hardly upgreadable (changing cpu not possilble, to change RAM whole unit should be disassembled and so on) maybe the company never thought about a problem of HDD upgrade to big one, in 2005 laptop HDD 2,5 inch 250GB was sth out of reach.

SO. I took the risk and bought a 250GB HDD. Works like a charm. Hope that it would help other user who are interested with the problem. The support at this forum is weak. :(
