Install the latest nVidia chipset driver for your 2300-

    For XP
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.18.html

    For Vista
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_vista_15.18.html

Also, if still having a problem... boot the unit on a different LAN. This seems to be a BIOS issue that the wired Ethernet remains inactive until it sees DHCP settings different than the last network it was using. You will find lots of suggestions in old posts, but the only thing that worked consistently for me was booting connected to a different network to grab a different IP address. I went so far one time as to re-program my home router, then program it back.
