Have you tried playing with the monitor switch? (Fn F5) May be it's switch to the external monitor?
Have you tried to hook up an external monitor? May be your lcd screen has taken an unusual time to burn out. Note that my Averatec died twice, and I didn't update the BIOS. It just shutoff one day and couldn't be started. I didn't even get a BIOS screen.

would anyone be kind enough to upload the whole file of the flasher and the bios files everything all in one package needed to flash the bios so a newb like me won't destroy my laptop.

I'm sure others have noticed that Averatec typically posts drivers and BIOS firmware (even if no new firmware is available) for each of its PC models on its web site. Other than the manual, they have never done so for the 2371. The drivers are certainly inter-changeable with the 2370 Vista drivers. And based on the fact that several of us are using the Everex BIOS from the twin to the 2371, I'm pretty sure it would run on the 2370 too. (although the 2371 shipped with R1.07, and the Everex StepNote ST5340T ships with R1.09). -
Hmm...I have been working on this for like 5 hours and still can't get past some warning about A20 already being in use or something like that.
I don't think my nero is burning these correctly. Any tips? -
I followed the instruction and installed the Everex R1.09 Bios successfully w/o any problem. The first time it boot there was checksum error. I pressed F1 to go into setup and load optimal default. Reboot again and everything worked fine. CPU is now 1600MHz.
Actually I like the Everex splash more than the Averatec. It solves the problem. Shame on Averatec.

* Vista works. All you have to do is to set the Power mode to something other than power saver. When I complain that this is not the case, the tech support indicate that it comes straight from HQ. If I chose not to believe it, then that's my problem (apparently HQ reality trumpts customer reality).
* Vista is not supported as a OS, even though we get it as an upgrade from them. Hmm... I thought OEM OS is supported by manufacturer.
* When I asked about the new BIOS, I was told that manufacturer did not give them a new BIOS so they can't release it. When I ask who I can contact about this, the tech guy said it is internal so I can't contact anybody.
Guess I won't be getting any Averatec in the future. Too fly by night to me.
Hmm.. May be I'll file a complaint with BBB and attourney general and a letter to Microsoft about vendor standards. If anyone else have filed a complaint, perhaps you can give me some case # I can reference when I send my complaint.

Personally, I suspect Averatec will close its doors in the near future. There is enough circumstantial evidence that their only sales in the past half year have been solely from sales of refurbished units.
I've been the route of the BBB and California Attorney General. In short, the company makes nice promises to these agencies, has somebody contact the customer and then never delivers.
Worse, collective Averatec users have caught the company in outright lies on several occasions. AMI likely won't give Averatec the BIOS code that we all know exists because Averatec hasn't paid their bill.
For better or worse, a recent power spike nailed my 2370 through either the network or the external monitor. I purchased the Everex Stepnote ST5340T and directly swapped in the RAM and hard drive from my 2370. I fired up right back to where I was. All the Vista device drivers from the 2370 loaded without an issue. In other words, the two units are electronically identical.
I feel so much better with a name plate and another year's warranty that doesn't say "Averatec". -
Thank you guys!!!! Able to flash and now it is reading fine. I suspect I've been running 800 mhz all along but just realized now when I upgraded to Vista. Now my puter is flying! (sh*t! it is out of the window again!)

I am honestly glad that I could help so many people with this particuliar laptop.
I have recently sold mine due to the fact of it just not being what I wanted, and that I had the opportunity to use a intel dual core laptop and haveing no issues with the cpu speed under vista and the fact that the whole laptop runs soo much cooler.
I will never buy, nor would I ever recommend another Averatec product.
But, I am glad that I could help those who still want to run their averatec 2300's by forcing another mfg's bios onto it
Good luck to all! -

BTW, Everex customer support is WAY better than Averatec's. -
I was wondering if the Everex BIOS 1.09 could be reposted. I attempted to download and rename the files to .rar, but they seem to be corupt.
Thanks! -
-
BTW-the winphlash utility & loading the extracted.bin for everex1.09 works like a charm.
yes- memory shows as 1 stick, but the video ram goes from 256 to 512mb! and the ram is correctly seen otherwise...

forgive me for dredging up this old thread guys. i have the same problem. 2370 that upgraded to vista and cpu dropped to 800. heck, i installed a single core 1.8 cpu and it was faster. but i would really like to get the speed i paid for. i did download the zip files on the first page but the links to the flash utility are dead. will someone please point to the file needed for the flash? (r1_4.exe) i am tired of pulling my hair and i am thrilled i found this forum.
-
being as this is an old thread i decided not to wait for a response and thought i would risk it. i downloaded afuwin from the ami web site and then, using the zip files on the first page of this thread i flashed the bios.
it worked. boy was i relieved! -

I will suggest that after flashing the BIOS, that you go into the BIOS setup and tell it to load the optimal settings. Then go in and change whatever you want - - for most people this will likely only be the boot device order. Reboot, and run the fan calibration. Reboot again and you will be in business.
At some point, you might want to recalibrate the BIOS with the actual current capacity of your battery. FYI- this takes quite a while to complete and your notebook will be inaccessible during this time - my suggestion is to start it before going to bed. I do it 1-2 a year. ...note, this only provides the BIOS with an idea of your battery's current condition. It does NOT recondition the battery for longer life as often mistakenly reported. Why do you want your BIOS to know the battery's current condition? This is how Windows estimates your remaining usage time and performs those automated shutdowns. -
I replace the Boot Image from Everex .bin (1.09) for a New Black Averatec Boot Screen
you need to download first the WinFlash Utility for Averatec 2370 1.05 Bios from here:
h@tp://driverscollection.com/?file_cid=394098271719c888940fab1efaa
dont install, just extract with a Zip or RAR utility.
in the folder WinFlash replace the "H12FA000.ROM" with the one i atached inside the H12FA000.zip
run the AFUWIN.exe app, load the new ROM, check first in the CMOS menu "Load ROM files Optimal", then in the Block Options, check the four options, then press the Flash Button, when it finish to flash the Bios, restart your computer.
when it loads, press F2, and then F1 and go to calibrate the Fan, and after the Battery (when you have time, it takes too much time).
then you have the new one 1.09 Everex Bios with Averatec Black Boot Image and a CPU working now 1600MHz, it works very well with Windows XP SP3 x86, and Vista Ultimate x86, Windows 7 x86. (i dont recomend Install Windows 7 x64 in the 2370 Averatec).
if you have problems with the Boot, turn on your computer and press the Insert/NumLk key, that wake the Amibios restore app.Attached Files:

I have Installed Hotfix on my Laptop (Averatec 2300)....to fix the Hibernate problem.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909095
After Restarting....the laptop could not boot ...and continued to shutdown automatically after 2-10 sec.
Please can anyone help me...I tried every thing...and nothing works.
If I flashed the BIOS is that can help me? If yes? Can Anyone tell me how to flash the BIOS exactly please in steps?
I will appreciate it a lot if some one send me the BIOS file.
Thanks a lot guys -

First of all, remove the hotfix.
Immediately as the BIOS splash screen starts to disappear, press F8 to get to the Windows boot Menu. First try, "Use Last Good Configuration". This will roll the OS back to its previous condition.
If this does not work, use the F8 key again as above and boot to Safe Mode. Login in as THE Administrator. Then use the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs function and tell it to display updates. Find the above hotfix and uninstall it.
While hibernate issues depend on an interaction between Windows and the BIOS - the issues here are with the code you installed with Windows. It has to be fixed before mucking with the BIOS firmware. -
The good news....I just found the problem...the laptop charger...is not charging....and thus the battery was totally empty...I replaced it and everything works fine.
Thanks again....BTW I still interested in upgrading BIOS.... despite of there is no problem now...so what you suggests..is it worth it? -
