Screen displayed hundreds of tiled images at a sharp angle, pressed power button to restart. (This occurred earlier this month for the first time, restarted okay that time.) This time however it did not restart, only the hard drive, wireless and battery lights illuminate and makes sound like at the beginning of the start process.

I have removed battery and held the start button for 60 seconds reinstalled battery to try and start. Also tried to start with battery out and power plugged in.

Any other help to recommend, it is not under warranty.

    Thanks

Your experience suggests to me that the GPU overheated. The fact that it did it twice likely means you are either using the unit differently (a warmer environment) or the heat pipe fins and/or fan are clogged.

The (post overheating?) death you describe mirrors many, many other users. I believe the BIOS does not recognize that the system has been shut down and that it should run the full power-up procedure.

My suggestion is to first verify that the cooling path is clean, then try the tip chronicalled elsewhere in this forum of placing a bootable CD in the drive and powering on the laptop. Some users have reported the laptop will suddenly boot the CD after sitting 3+ hours. And then will restart normally following a correct shutdown.

    any bootable CD

also make sure you unplug any peripherals. I sometimes cannot reboot if I have USB devices plugged in.

    Jim,

I put in the disc and nothing happened right away, I let it sit overnight and it booted up. I used it for a week and now it is doing the same thing again. I now occurs a few minutes after booting up. I checked for any obstructions in the airflow and found none.

Any other ideas on what I can do?

or - Should I send it to Averatec or take it in to a local shop for repair?

    Thanks,

    Ryan
