Am I missing something? I haven't used a headset on my laptop and today I finally did but the sound is still playing from the laptop and from the headset. I cannot find a way to change this.

I couldn't figure this out so I reinstalled the audio driver and....now it works just fine. --- scratching head.

The control panel for Realtek HD has the option to link some of the ports for simultaneous use. Likely this is what happened. Reinstalling the driver reset this the default condition.
