Hello, I just read in a thread (Compal durability?) Compals come with a 3 year warranty:
Is this only the case in the United States? Could it be different in Europe (the Netherlands more specifically)? That is because I have to pay for a 3 year warranty from the internet seller (or internet retailer). That wouldn't be necessary when Compals in Europe also come with a 3 year warranty.
Can someone answer this question? Thank you for your help.

I'm also verry curious about this.

The reseller gives the warranty, not compal
it depends, i only got a 1 year warranty -

The 3 Year Warranty is what some dealers provide with the units stock. It is not from Compal it is only provided by select dealers.

I thought the warranty came from the reseller. So maybe the reseller in Europe decided to charge more for a 3 year warranty while the ones in the US decided to give it free of charge.

*edit: To slow -
From the post it appeared to me warranty is also offered by compal itself. Thank you for your answers.

Here in the US, Compals have a 3 year warranty (at least from XoticPC and Powernotebooks). As mentioned, that is provided by the reseller, not Compal.
Sounds like the reseller you are looking at has decided to charge for extended warranties. -
Woah! sorry! I'll change that post immediately! Jeez I leave the forum for a day, come back, and people are telling me (via negative rep points) that I'm misinforming people.

@ LT.Glare: sorry I didn't inform you about your mistake in your post. -
no problem
. I thought the Compal warranty was standard seeing as how milestonepc, power notebooks etc. offered it. Why does the Compal have a 3 year warranty offered when laptops like Asus do not?

It is all about the dealer and what they choose to provide with the unit. There are a few dealers, including us, that put 3 Year Warranties on Asus "whitebox" notebooks. You will likely not see this kind of warranty on a Asus "Ensemble" as they are pre-built by Asus where the "whitebox" is built by the dealer.
-
Yeah, Asus "Ensemble" notebooks (aka pre-built/pre-configured) will have a 2 year global warranty that is covered by Asus, not the reseller. Whitebooks (such as the 96J series) will have to be covered by the warranty that the dealer will give you since the ODM will not want to cover any screw-ups made by the reseller (not singling out anyone out there with that statement
). It's just that whitebooks were not assembled by the ODM (such as Compal or Asus) under their own watch and quality standards, etc. so they won't back them as heartily.

Correct. The ODMs (other than ASUS and Lenovo/IBM) do not provide warranties to the user, they only provide them to the OEM builder, who then provides whatever warranty they choose to the user.
-
Just to pitch in here because reading this thread makes it sound like the OEM builder isn't always a great warranty provider...
Going off the testimony from the grand majority of the users on this forum, all the extended warranties seem to be excellent from all the favored resellers on this forum.
