I've read a few places that there is a registry tweak to get longer battery life out of the Averatec 3200 series laptops - but I cannot seem to find that tweak anywhere.

    Any pointers would be appreciated,

If you DO NOT use the windows provided by averatec, it could be possible that windows is not using the capability of your mobile athlon cpu. Microsoft's KB claims that this problem is fixed with sp1, but I had this problem even with sp1. No idea about sp2. If you don't know if you have the driver, download cpuz and watch the clock of your cpu, it should drop when idle, and go at full speed when on full load. I've applied this fix a few times, if you have any questions don't hesitate.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q306458/ for the driver
    See http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php#download for cpuz

I believe you are referring to the registry *fix* which restores your power settings appropriately after the problem caused by PowerDVD which no longer allows your machine to reduce CPU speed (always runs at full speed).

I may have found something in regard to the battery life problem on my Averatec 3200 series laptop. Essentially, using CPU-Z, I noticed that the CPU frequency did not scale relative to the amount of work being done on the computer at any given time. I was considering uninstalling all of the Cyberlink things that shipped with the computer as this seems to have caused people some grief with CPU frequency scaling. However, I looked in the Power Management control panel and switched the power profile to "Max Battery". Lo and behold the CPU frequency dropped to around 400 MHz during idle. To test things, I launched a small video file while I had CPU-Z open. I watched the clock speed ramp up as the file was opened and drop back down. It spiked throughout playback, I guess filling the playback buffer, etc. Long story short, you guys may want to try this first before uninstalling anything that came with the system.

Is there any way I can get a copy of the corrupted registry keys? I want to play with something. If anyone has these (in corrupted state), please let me know, or point me to a link.

This has worked for many people on many platforms. Corrupted registry or not.[8D]
