The optical drive in my 3250 will read both CD and DVD but not write to either media. The burning software (Nero) goes through the motions as if it was writing and even gives the "Burn Successful" message. But when I check the disk (either CD or DVD) it is blank. I substituted the drive from and identical 3250 and that worked okay so I know it is my optical drive that is faulty. Is there something to check to see if it can be fixed? Is it worth messing with?
BTW, beut, glad to see you found this forum. What took you so long?![]()

Thanks for still remember me.
A recorder encodes (or burns) data onto a recordable media by selectively heating parts of an organic dye layer with a laser beam with a shorter wave length than for reading, thus the writing laser is considerably more powerful.
I think the only way to fix is looking a drive that has mechanical problem, then swap the board on your old drive with a good one. -
Thanks for the suggestion ... so you feel it is the control board on the drive ... is it easy to remove and replace? If you come across one, let me know. I've been looking on eBay for a dud 3200, but did not see any so far. Thanks.

Your 3250 can use any slimtype combo drive, the problem is only the door.
If your door doesn't have a screw ( a small black screw) then it's a snap in, then there's not a problem to buy any slimtype combo drive. Just re-use your old bracket and door to a new combo drive which has standard configuration that different laptops with different mounting and door can fit.
Manufacturers use the same slimtype combo drive, but build bracket and door to fit the design of their laptops. -
Thanks again, beut .... I'll have a look for one.
