Which would you go for and why? I live in the uk, can't decide between these 2.

This is actually the main problem I'm having deciding which to get but throw in the white 6324W too! I guess it comes down to a matter of style and size/weight rather than spec. seems as they pretty much match up in price...I have to say I'm leaning towards the smaller 6324W/6224W although I'm concerned about the position of the speakers and whether they'll annoy me over time...

Edit: Actually does the 3415w come with a fingerprint reader??

Heres how i see it, dimensions are pretty identical despite the 14 inch to 15.4 inch screens, i put this down to the speakers under the 14 inch screen.

3415w POS - looks decent, has the 2.0 megapixel webcam, built in mic and fingerprint reader. Options for faster processors.
3415w NEG - Costs more than the 6224w (6224w is on sale at the moment), has a lower screen res of 1280*800.

6224w POS - Higher screen res of 1440*900, on sale so its cheaper.
6224w NEG - Doesnt have webcam mic or fingerprint reader.

Its basically a toss up between price vs design vs specs and features.
I dont really want to spend over £1000, but its my first laptop and im going to be keeping it for a few years, would i miss out on the webcam mic fingerprint reader and faster processor.

I just worked out that the exact same spec, service and accessories, works out £70 more for the 3415w.

I thought i had my mind made up before on the 6224w for design, but now im thinking, as its not that much smaller than the 15.4, im missing out screen space, plus those speakers could annoy me and im starting to think they make it look cheap. One of the 6224w main selling points to me was that it was top spec in a 14 inch chassis, but its only 1 cm less wide and less deep than the 15.4 inch 3415w.

I suppose for the £70 i am getting the webcam mic and fingerprint reader, but is it worth the sacrifice in screen resolution.

The 6224w is .6kgs ligher and has a samsung screen which is matte, has a higher contrast ratio and brightness and a higher resolution. The 3415w has a gloss screen which i think would annoy me with the reflections.

The 6224w is also cheaper, and has more of a multimedia creative gaming look to it imo. Im not sure id ever use the webcam mic or fingerprint reader, although looking at the pdfs, the 6224w apparently has a built in mic.
The 3415w has the option for a built in tv tuner which again i dont think i would use, i think the 3415w has more of a professional business look to it. Although i can see the 6224w being used in business situations also. Is there a noticeable different going from the 2.0 to 2.2 ghz processor. Are cpus easy to upgrade later in time?

Another minor point is the 6224w has a catch lock when shutting the screen, the 3415w apparently uses magnets. Will magnets have any effect on the screen and how secure is this shutting mechanism.

Battery life, graphics card, ram hd etc are all the same, connections pretty identical except the 3415w has a CIR whatever that is.

I think im remembering why i was choosing the 6224w now, its just the lack of difference in size and price plus the thought of missing out on a webcam and fingerprint reader got me thinking.

Demostricke - The 6324w works out £40 to have it in white. Would you be going for the white or black keyboard?

Im waiting for the 7200rpm 200gb hard drive to come out on 1st august before i order.

Does anyone know how this compares to a 5400rpm hard drive at either 160 200 or 250 gbs? Is there a big difference in speed with larger drives?

Do we have accurate dimesions if both laptops available?

Gi1b0 - Probably white although now I'm leaning towards the 3415w as you've claimed theyre about the same size. Especially since the 3415w can have a tv tuner...are you sure about that - i see no option for it

    Some last things:
    1) the official product catalog pdf states you can get custom lids however I see nothing on the website about this (UK).

If you click on datasheet under the pics of the laptops, you get a pdf file of all the detailed specs measurements and options in there. The 3415w and 6225wd have tv tuner options. Ive seen a video on their site showing these custom lids, just email them to find out more, you probably just have to email them a pic of certain dimensions. The 3415w has a lower resolution screen, are you aware of that? Plus it weighs more and is thicker.

Yeah, I'm aware of that - gonna check to see how much a custom lid is. I'll report back!

The custom lids are currently unavailable and have been for a few months. It was taking far too long to get them finished but there are some that have been brought with this. We are loooking on another solution for this as we know that people like it and it makes us stand out ,but we need to be able to deliver in a reasonable time frame

Great, I think I'll go ahead and place my order anyway. I need my laptop soon and if it's at the sacrafice of a cutsom lid so be it. Anyway they look nice enough to start with. ;)

Why are you going for the 3415w? Im just curious, i cant see any benefits apart from the webcam and fingerprint reader. Its heavier, bigger, more expensive and has a lower quality screen than the 6224w. Am i missing something?

I have no idea. They have not be available ever since the new models were starting to come in. Maybe it is taken from another source originally.
