My 6130HS has been overheating a lot lately, so I opened it up and followed ubercam's cleaning instructions. Everything went just fine. I put everything back together, turned it on, and then nothing. It turned on, but just stayed black. No BIOS beeps, no Avaratec screen, just nothing. The HDD light will turn on for about 10 seconds. The fans spin, and everything sounds like it should be working (other than the lack of BIOS beeps). About every 30 seconds the screen will flash white.
I called tech support, they don't have a clue. Does anyone know what I did wrong and how to fix it?

Try going to www.averatecforums.com, there's a lot of Averatec users there that could help you out . Good luck with your problem.

perhaps you possibly disconnected the cpu somehow. Maybe open it up again and make sure everything that should be connected is, and the heatsink/cpu are secure and in place.

I've been reading the posts on this forum ever since I bought my Averatec 6130H two years ago. This is my first post. Sorry for the length of my message, I want to be sure to give all the necessary info.
My problem is like imjustabill's: after cleaning my laptop won't boot, the power button and the several small lights near the keyboard come on. Then nothing. No beep, no screen activity, just the sound of the fan running, and a slight warming over where the hard drive is to tell me that some things are working.
The laptop had been overheating so much that it would shut down after 1/2 hour use. I'd never opened a laptop before, so found an online how-to-clean your 6100 and got a more experienced friend to help. We cleaned the old thermal paste off the heat sink and the pad on the back of the CPU, applied a thin coat of new paste, then put things back, hit the power button, and - no boot. We took the laptop apart again, checked everything, closed it. Same situation.
When we'd first opened the laptop we had trouble lifting the CPU heat sink. The heat sink seemed bonded to the CPU, which seemed attached to the pad below it, and we had to use a bit of force. The second time we'd opened the laptop, we noticed a small plastic arm attached to the right side of the plastic CPU seat. When we lifted it, the seat also lifted. We lifted the arm, re-seated the CPU, dropped the arm, and noticed that it seemed to have locked the CPU in.
My question: since we'd first lifted the heat sink/CPU out without releasing the arm, then re-seated the CPU without using the arm, can we have damaged the CPU? Would you suggest buying a new CPU to solve my boot problem.
Thanks for any and all feedback or suggestions. -

Remove the cpu again an see if any pins are missing. If a pin is missing you will need to extract the one form the socket and replace the cpu. It being a desktop CPU it will not be hard to find. The post that you broke loose can be reattached with super glue. If it's the one I'm thinking about. Mine came loose to when I had to tear mine completly apart, to correct the alignment of the back. 1 foot was off the desk by 3/16", making it extremely hard to open an close. Came back that way form their what they call service dept. On a scale of 1-10 I rate them a -100. Doesn't qualify as a service dept. A 4 yr old could do better.
Any time you try to remove a heat sink from any device it is always recomended to wiggle it back in forth to break it loose. Lifting straight up will damage the cpu or even the MB.
On mine it did not boot when I installed new ram. All I had to do was reseat it. -
Thanks blue68f100. We checked the CPU, no missing or crooked pins. It looks new. Can the CPU look fine and still be damaged? We're wondering if we may have damaged the plastic CPU seat instead. Can that be tested and/or fixed?

If you damage one of the motherboard traces you are out of luck. It is possiable to damage a P4 by over heating it.

I now have the same problem as the original post, according to his description.
I have not opened this laptop other than upgrading ram.
If anyone knows anything about it please post
I will be trying to fix this problem.
I did notice that sometimes when you turn it on you will not get the white screen flash every 30 seconds
After letting the laptop sit for about an hour or so I turned it on it showed the bios screen then the averatec logo and locked up stuck on the logo screen
After letting the laptop sit over night I turned it on. It did the same thing and stuck on a blank flashing curser after the logo screen.
It sounds like a heat problem but I have not had time to take this thing apart.
I will be doing a very careful and thorough clean up of this laptop including the silver paste.
I will also be testing the ram and trying another hard drive
I have the 6130hs-20
hopefully I can figure this out and post a resolution -

I have had the same problem when the ram was not seated properly.
You can also try reseting the BIOS. To do this remove the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec with the Battery and AC disconnected. If that does not work do it again but this time install the battery upside down.
I have the cleaning and Service manual if you need it. -
Thanks!
