Well ive had my averatec 6100 series laptop for about a month and a half now, and its been trouble since day 1. This was indicated to me when I first took it out of the box and set it up, as soon as I turned it on it restarted on me twice before finally letting me continue. Since then the laptop has been downhill. At any random time (mostly within the first 10 minutes of operation) it will either restart, completly shutoff, or lock up (most frequent). Ive even thought it was possibly some software i was running, so i used the averatec backup cd's and could not get through the installation for about 2 days since it would lock up around finishing windows installation, or throw an error. Averatec tech help has just said "send it in, well see what we can do." My only problem is im a college student and sadly have to rely on this thing for the time being, ill most likely send it in for repairs come december. Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems like this? Or anyone looking for an averatec laptop soon[} :)]

Definitely. Return that unit. Lots of times laptops can be shaken in the shipping, or have another inherent problem. It's unfortunate, but not unheard of. I'm sure newegg will grant you a replacement.

    Nyquil-
Sorry to hear your having issues with your 6100. I too purshased from Newegg...and am very satisfied. Did you ever talk to them about a replacement? Newegg is very well known for their support...but if you wait too long, then you may need to go through the manufacture. I personally have had only one issue, and that was a bad battery...easily fixed with a replacement. I have upgraded the memory, and loaded it with business and development software...no issues. And the ghost software worked fine for me...i have reimaged it a few times to verify it works. Sounds like a lemon...which can happen.

    Good luck!

NewEgg and Averatec both have pretty good reputations for helping out customers. First try and go through NewEgg for a replacement, and then Averatec for getting the laptop fixed if that doesn't work. If you can get a refund from NewEgg you could run out and buy a 6100 from a nearby retailer such as Staples...I used to live in Columbus and there's plenty of those there, and if you happen to be at Ohio State there's one just across the Olentangy River in the Lennox shopping center [ ;)]

well im hoping it is a lemon, unfortunatly im passed neweggs 30 day return policy so i wont be seeing help from them. Im also hoping averatec's manufacturers warrenty of 1 year will cover this, and they dont somehow blame it on me, or even worse..."we cant duplicate the problem, so we cant help you.."

    Nyquil07,

It sounds like you got a lemon 61xx puter. That's always an unfortunate situation. No one like to have to go through the trouble of exchanges and repairs! I've had my 6130 for about 3 months now, and it works as advertised. There's definitely something wrong with yours. However, as mentioned by others in the thread, it should be covered under Averatec's 1-yr warranty. While shopping the Internet has its advantages for less expensive items, I generally reserve major purchases (in excess of $1000), to local stores - if possible. That way, returns can be made in person, and you will likely leave with a new machine.

Good luck, and I hope you can get it resolved with a minimum of hassle.
