One of the power MOSFETs probably blew...hopefully nothing else was damaged during the failure but it is a distinct possibility if parts actually started smoking.

What the heck is with laptops and smoking, these days? :D

I would open up the laptop and see where the smoke is coming from, my first guess would be the CPU or GPU

I'm not an expert on Averatec laptops, but I'd say if your laptop is smoking, that's a sign that it's time to turn it off and get it looked at. Take it apart at least without the battery or AC plugged into it. You never know, maybe it's just the fan got something lodged in it. Still, as many exploding battery cases as there have been, if I were you, I wouldn't take chances.

Oh man. I have one of these sitting on my bench at work right now. Probably my least favorite Averatec to disassemble.

Main V+ Transistor blew. These two in line of eachother on the DC Board, P-Type SOP8's. If you're getting smoke, there's your cause.

Unplug it and junk it. Repair costs will go way, way over the cost of a netbook.
