is the 3ghz really worth it? i mean 2.8ghz and 3ghz isnt that far apart. is there a "real" faster performance with the 3ghz instead of 2.8ghz. is there any "real" adavantage of HT technology with the 3ghz processor?

Ok, well heres the thing:
The Averatec 6128 comes with the Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, and that CPU is a 533 FSB CPU, and it also has 512 L2 cache if im not mistaken on that model.
Where as the 6130 comes with the Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz w/ HT which has 800 FSB and has L2 cache of 1MB (if im incorrect, please correct me).
so where the FSB is concerened, if you have 800 MHZ, it gives the communication to the ram, and the chipset much faster, then the 533 FSB.
So the major question is this: Do YOU think its worth getting the higher cache, higher speed, and overall higher performance?
If your using it for basic usage, I wouuldn't consider it much, but if its something you'd like in the views of gaming and etc, then you might wanna think twice before purchasing the 6128.

I just ran sandra soft and according to them the board is 800mhz fsb and only 512kb of cache memory. All I can say is it's way faster then my duron 1.3ghz.

There isn't going to be a great performance difference between the two unless you play games or use an app that needs a lot of processing power.
The HT technology in my opinion is not as great as many would make it out to be. It does help speed up certain applications and provides a little extra power over a regular non HT processor but it can also slow down your computer in some cases.
The weakness of Intels HT technology is that it fools the OS into thinking it has two CPUs but it only has the resources of a single CPU to work with. So if you throw two floating-point heavy applications at the HT CPU, it might actually run slower because both of the applications fight for the same resources.
I would still get a HT CPU over a non HT CPU any day but just realize it's not going to give you a huge advantage that many would lead you to believe.
In any case the only reason to get the 6128 over the 6130 is the price! How much is the extra power worth to you!

Hey Jedisolo,
Have you run the performance wizard in Sandra, cause everytime I run it the software crashes and my laptop reboots. I cant figure out whats causing it to crash like it is and was wondering if this is happening to anyone else.

the p4 3.0ghz is a 800mhz chip, but the RAM only runs at 166mhz, thus making the advantage of the 800mhz cpu kind of ... reduced.
This processor has 512kb of l2 cache
I would prefer 3.0ghz as this frequency breaks some kind of psychological limit ... my 2 cents -
Ya, but the thing is that the 2.8 Pentium 4 was only made in 533FSB model. The Pentium 4 2.8B has 512 L2 cache, and also the current P4 in the 6130 is the 512kb cache... i forgot that this is the northwood chip, and is therefore is only 512 cache

To Knightmare,
have you tried kicking out the sandra you have and install another? I use it as well (licenced thru guru3d.com) with zero issues.

Yup that did the trick, it was the modem drivers that was causing Sandra to crash!!
-
Yeah, I tried that a few times and I still get the blue screen of death and then the laptop restarts.
But, I was finally able to see that it crashes while analyzing the Ports and at that point it gives me the blue screen of death. I checked further and there seems to be a problem with my com 3 port which is set to my modem. The hardware manager says it working fine but when I query the modem it crashes and restarts. So at least I found what was causing Sandra to crash. Now all I have to do is fix it, so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know! Im going to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to see if that helps.
Thanks,
-Richard
