    On my 6130HS-20,

    I'm going to do a full install of XP Pro (after a low-level format) to clear out my xp home and get my machine ready for action. [8D]

    Thanks to you guys, I found the drivers for my 6130 online [ :D]. Now what about the handy apps that came pre-installed? Works, DVD burning, etc.??

    Is there any way I can keep from losing them? [?]

    chances are that they are on the recovery cd's, just explore around until you find them, if you have a microsoft office set, i would say put that on instead of works, imo word is better then works.

    hurricane...

    Are you installing XP Pro on a relatively new 6130? If you are, why the interest in wiping the drive? There hasn't been enough time for Windows to collect all the junk. By upgrading to Pro you won't loose the apps too.

    Instead, I would recommend the following;

    (1) delete any miscellaneous apps you're not using and don't intend to use.
    (2) empty the trash can.
    (3) defrag your drive.
    (4) upgrade to XP Pro.
    (5) install XP SP 2.
    (6) install latest video, wireless, USB and LAN drivers from Averatec website.
    (7) you should end up with a good, tight upgrade to XP Pro.

    I upgraded to XP Pro a few days after I got my 6130, after I upgraded the memory to 1 gig. If you have trouble with the built-in wireless after you install SP 2, download and install the ralink drivers instead. They fixed all of my wireless problems I encountered a few weeks ago.

    Good luck,
    redjr...

    I wanted to reformat and reinstall because that's the advice given to me by every techie or sys admin that I've talked to. But I'm starting to rethink that because I don't want to lose my programs.
