Hi, just got a used 6130HS. I like it a lot so far. I have read about the cooling issues and plan on taking it apart to clean. Is there a link out there for doing this? I found a link to a pdf in a few places here but the link no longer works. Yes, I have searched!![]()
Second, I have a strange issue. If the laptop is idle or has just been turned on it's fine. However, if it's warmed up a while, or if I'm running something intensive like burn-in test, once it gets hot, if I press (or sometimes even touch) the case above the hard drive or along the left side next to the keyboard, the video will go nuts, with stripes and strange colors, and sometimes completely quit. Does not do this when cold no matter how hard I press or tap, so definitely heat related. Any ideas?
Lastly, My battery meter registers 100% full, and the green light is on solid, but the instant I pull out the AC plug from the side, it dies hard. Is this likely a bad battery or could there be other issues? Don't want to waste about $80-$100 on a battery if that is not the issue here.
Thanks!!!

I still have the 6130hs that I bought in 2004 and the first thing I bought was a notebook cooler.

Well I have an update.
I put a 10" desk fan under the laptop and it survived repeated burn in tests. I removed the desk fan and it failed first shot and every subsequent attempt. Definitely heat related issue.
I disassembeld the thing. It was clean as a whistle, not a speck of dust or lint in the coolers. Nothing.
I picked up a tube of arctic silver 5 from radio shack (actually my wife did for me) and applied it to the northbridge, all of the ati chipset, and the p4 chip. The northbridge and ati set had the blue thermal pads on them, the p4 had some kind of white thermal paste which I cleaned off with alcohol.
Works perfect now. I make it all the way through the 15 minute burn in test, would not barely make 5 minutes before the arctic silver. I'm a believer!!!
Now I just need to buy a battery. -
Just got finished playing unreal tournament 2004 at 1280 X 800 for an hour, it's hot as hell on the bottom but it never shut down.

And Last but not least, a new battery from Ebay for $69 solved the power issue, it was just a bad battery.
