    Hi all!

I have searched the forums but haven't found a solution to my problems.

I recently recieved my 6224W (2,0 ghz/2 gb ram) and installed win xp sp 2 and vista ultimate. Even though I have installed all drivers from the Zepto driver cd, I still get exclamation marks in the device manager in both xp and vista. In win xp the firewire driver seems to be missing as well as a driver for the sd card reader (?). In both xp and vista there seems to be an unknown device. I've also checked the zepto ftp site.

Furthermore, win xp sp2 doesn't seem to detect the dual core. Only one graph is available in the task manager. Is it a bios problem? I did restore the factory defaults in order to solve the fan issue.

Any help/hints would be most welcome.

    TIA/marre

I had similar problems with drivers, but they really are all on the cd.

you just need to install few of them manually from device manager, find the correct file manually and install. it can be little difficult because you may have no idea what these names on the cd mean, what is the correct driver for each missing device etc..

I think it is not necessary, most of them are the same.

I also had two exclamation marks when I installed XP on my 6024W. They are probably the same devices. I managed to clear them both.

I recall that one is the TPM module (there's clearly something on the main board but no sensor on the outside). I cleared it by installing the TPM software which includes the relevant driver. An alternative route is turn off the TPM module in the BIOS.

I can't remember the other one. Just work through all the drivers on the CD, even if they are for components you didn't think you had (such as two types of Infra red). These Zeptos have a lot of functionality on the inside (one can almost get lost in the BIOS).

Thanks for all help. I have worked through the cd but still can't find the drivers for firewire, sd card and flash media controller. Does any one know where I could find these?

Has anybody else had any problems with win xp not "detecting" the dual core as dual core?

the drivers for the card reader is in the folder called "Cardbus", I think.

I think you are correct - it's a TI driver in the "Cardbus" folder. The media card reader is TI as is the firewire (see the attached)

I had no problem with dual core recognition, but I was using a new XPSP2b and I presume the "b" means its includes updates since SP2.

I did have fun recently trying to get Win 2K recognising a dual core CPU on my desktop, but that's another matter.

Does having both XP & Vista take up a lot of memory? Ive never installed 2 operating systems on a computer before, do you have to manually choose which one you want to run each time you power the laptop on?

Where is the infra red and the mic on the 6024w/6624w?

Normally, you put the different operating systems in different partitions on the HDD and manually choose which to boot. There is a process called virtualisation which enables running one OS from inside another, but I haven't tried it.

The mic is on the front next to the indicator lights and the IR sensor is on the front side below the touch pad buttons.

Ok, I have worked through the cd as well as the drivers from the ftp. Still no luck, though. Attached you'll find a screen shot from my device manager.

I have also downloaded ALL win xp updates from Microsoft but I can't get windows to detect my dual core.

Could there be a problem with my computer?

John, I noticed that you have the item Processor in your device manager. Could you tell/show me what device it refers to?

The processors in Device Manager should have two instances of the CPU (one for each core).

Did you run the Intel inf update utility? It's not a driver so it might have been overlooked, but it is what tells the operating system about all the Intel hardware.

I did a complete reinstall of Windows XP (from another installation cd) and now everything seems fine. Dual core is ok, firewire is ok, cardbus is ok. I only have one unknown device which doesn't bother me. Thanks all for your help (especially John).

    Take care
