Why did zepto decide to make the new 6224W ugly? why, oh, why?
Couldn't they have stuck to the clean and simple design? Did they have to go all "we wanna look like dell because they have such ugly design and we don't want to sell computers"?
They have added colored sides "a'la dell":
(EDIT! I have added the official photo as well)

Yuck...
*filler* -
I'm still holding out for the official pictures from zeptos pro photographer.
But if the looks (design+color) is the same as on the recent pictures, then I will definetly wait and get another model or look into another brand -
The photo posted above is not the new Znote 6224!!! Apart from being a very bad picture, The casing is much darker all over. We @ Zepto have uploaded a set of pictures onto 1 of our websites to hopefully avoid any confusion. Here is the link http://www.zepto.dk/specifications/dk/files/6224W_Web.zip [email protected] for any questions evan over the bank holiday
-
May I just say: it looks really good!
Do not forget the pictures of the quikreview posted on the zeptoforum are from a TESTING model. -
Thanks ,The 6224 will look 100% like the pictures from the above link
-
The crappy photo sure looks like the new 6224. Got the exact same look, just a bit more dust below the keyboard, so don't claim it's not the 6224. Anyone can see it's basically the same, the only difference is that it's taken with a crappy camera with crappy lighting and without photoshop effects. Anyway, the silver sides are ugly, and should never have been added. A good way to ruin a perfectly good design. Why change a winning concept? Is it so hard to see that makes Apple's design so rewarded?
And another thing: The outputs look the same as on the 6214W. Does this mean no Firewire 800, no DVI output? -
I don't think that the new design is _that_ bad. I agree that the previous all over black styling was very cool and probably slightly preferable to this new design, but its still a very smart looking notebook and is shaping up to be a great performer.
-
I don't know why the silver is bugging you... maybe Zepto should put two version on the market - one with the silver border and one without. I like it.
-
I like clean cut design, and since I don't want a Mac (don't like the OS and pricing), Zepto was second best with 6214W: All black, something which basically no other PC-notebook manufacturer has managed to create even though it's the easiest thing ever to come up with and there's a huge demand for it.
-
I think the 6224 is much better looking than the 15.4" model. The black keyboard looks really cool and I don't like the rounded edges of the bigger model. But, hey, we all have our preferences.
-
Hello Guys,
Thank you for this fresh info, I hope to see a final version in all black or all white, I do not loke the grey around it.
In addition the connectic looks like the actual 6214W, hope to see DVI output too.
That's only my opinion, -
Thanks alot for the official photos, they give a better impression.
I still don't like the borders though
But I'm glad it isn't grey as the other photos gave me the impression of. -

Can't it look the same as this? All black is certainly more stylish than those silver bumper linings that plague the Dells. I have a feeling in the Dell Redeign, those bumpers will be gone. Lets get rid of them for this model too?
That said, will the 6214 still be sold after the 6224 is released? -
The only improvements of the 6214W design I can think of is stuff like: adding a glowing "zepto" logo a'la Apple, or removing the glossy part above the keyboard (would look better if it was matte). Or making the whole thing glossy -
I think you really need to see it up close. The border makes a good breather to the sleek black chassis, although obviously as you guys say it is a matter of preference. I personally really liked the 6214W, but if you look at it day in and day out it gets slightly dull... This gives a small contrast to that just breathing some air into the design. Also the colour isnt really silver, but the camera has a problem capturing that, it has a breath of blue in it as well really sparking it up a bit instead of a standard silver colour.
-
btw, as far as i know, it will be the only 14" on the market with a 8600GO especially with a 512 MB frame buffer
-
Does anyone know what kind of screen it will be - resolution, matt/glossy, response times etc.?
-
1440x900 - samsung panel, think its 6ms as far as i remember and non glare..
-
In my opinion the real cracker on this machine is precisely the high resolution panel, and the out of the box super fast GFX board, in a small and compact machine
-
You really should add that option when ordering. It gives the 6214W a whole new look.
Anyway I doubt that 6224W will be the only 14" with a 8600go in it. I bet asus plan to make a few of those as well. Or perhaps MSI? Maybe not with 512mb memory though. -
Black model with white keyboard?
I really can't imagine that, got a pic? -
I've updated my first post in this thread with a pic of my 6214W
-
I think the design is just fine! I'm glad it's not full black. Completely black laptops look too masculine in my opinion.
-
I got some questions regarding the release of this notebook on my PM, there's no real secret here, most of the new products will be availeble online mid next week.
Regarding the 8600 in a 14"... thats a real nut to crack with the cooling solution.... thats why im doubting that anybody else will be releasing it.. most of what i have seen is 8400GO due to the 20W power consumption of the VGA. -
Wait, so the 14'' has a matte screen whereas the 15'' now has a glare screen? Hoorah! I just posted in the other thread saying I wouldn't buy the 6625 because of that, but now I may just buy this 14'' if it's just as good but a bit smaller.
-
I have to agree with Morten, the border gives it something extra, it looks more complete now in some way. But maby we just are so used to see the 6214W all the time so we don't notice it's great looks anymore :/
-
Well it looks exacly the same as the 6314w,
only the border is different...
Now the big issues, should be the cooling...
Since it was a problem on the 6314, and this one looks exactly the same, so you'll have the same problems that the 6314w.
I dont know the power, and cooling requirements for the 7600 and the 8600, but i think that the 8600, would need more power and so more overheat -
you dont design something to overheat, which is exactly the trick... and nor the 6314W or the 6214W has overheating issues factory default.. the cooling solution is completely redesigned despite though and the power output for a 8600 is 1W higher than the 7600 at same clock speed...
-
anyway I hope the new models will sell, becuase I just invested in Zepto stocks
-
I just wish I had the money to do this now... I'm a student.. = no do

http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/05/compal-readies-ifl90-ifl91-ift00-and-itf01-santa-rosa-laptops/
I must agree however that there aren't a lot of players in the 14inch market offering similar gfx capabilities and it doesn't seem like this group of manufacturers is going to substantially grow any time soon. -
The black compal looks a lot better than the 6224W
Anyway, Compal and Zepto usually aren't competing on the same market. Can't get compal here in sweden as far as I know
Btw, both zeptos' and compals' computers comes from Inventec right? So they are probably quite identical in many ways -
Im sorry to dissapoint you guys but we will carry the compals a long side the 6xxx series as a good value replacement, and only the 15" will sport a 8600 the 14" is 8400.. NB8P-(M)=8400 NB8P-GS=8600
But correct its a NB8P but engadget lists it wrong..... -
6xxx series will be top of the line all the way, from panels to specs... and the compal design are not nearly as nice, but you'd have to get one to compare
-
Are we likely to see a 6324W? i.e a white version of the 6224W?
-
yep.. no change in the design there except the box which if i might say so is really fly this year
-
can't wait for pictures
-
Emm... black with white/silver bumpers.. my least favorites.. regardless of wat brand...
-
Not very fond of the new design - all black/white was better. The sleek sober look of the 6214 was definitely one of the reasons why I bought it. Luckily I'm not planning to replace it soon. The only thing I don't like about mine is the poor quality of the screen (can't get it calibrated properly - a bit of an issue if you're a graphic designer).
-
good thing that they haven't added a silver bar to the 6324 anyway
I was hoping though, that zepto would make it all-white instead of b/w. And please remove the silver panel above the keyboard before you launch it will ya? -
If the 6324 is going to be exactly the same in design I will definetly go for that one instead of 6324!

Can I presume this is replacing the 6214? Anyone know when they'll drop the 6214?
-
The 6214 is in limited stock and then when there is no more we shall wave it goodbye!!!
-
As far as I can tell, the Compal counterpart doesn't have 800MHz RAM modules... moronic imo, as they're santa rosa.
-
Is the screen the same as 6214 in terms of viewing angles? Would be interesting to know..
And is Centrino Pro (the new processors, right?) available soon?
The 6224W will have VGA and S-video out, but will this ever change? -
Rene S - Zepto Company Representative
I have to say I don't know about the viewing angles of the LCD panel.
The Centrino Pro is only allowed to be used on a machine if there is a Core 2 Duo (or Quad Core) CPU, Intel Santa Rosa chipset and Intel 4695 Wireless LAN card in the machine. Those 3 components make up for the Centrino Pro branding. Centrino Pro is not a CPU
The 6224W will have VGA and S-video to begin with but will later on carry HDMI interface i believe on updated models. We are working on getting the certification for HDMI. -
Will it be possible to upgrade a 6625WD bought without the HDMI with HDMI once you guys get it cerified?
Oh, and which of the optional features of Centrino Pro are featured in the 6625WD model? (Intel® Turbo Memory etc)
6224W new design? (nooooo!)
