The 6224 has arrived and I'll be writing a full review of it over the next few days. Expect it up by the end of next week.

Does that 6224W model have 800MHz RAM? I've seen from one of the other threads that the 800MHz RAM is running at 667MHz. However, it would be interesting to know what speed it gives in the Sandra memory bandwidth benchmark.

This review model has 2GB 667MHz ram.

Oh and: Vista is taking 900 years to start for the first time!

A first impression: I have 4 laptops sitting on my desk and whilst the Zepto is starting up Vista and the other three are idle the Zepto is by far the loudest. I'm sure the Novatech will drown it out though.

Thanks. I've seen that it is running at 667MHz CL=5, but does it perform better than normal 667MHz RAM?

The attached Sandra result is for 2 x 1GB 667MHz in Samsung Q70 (Intel 965PM chipset). I was wondering if the 800MHz RAM does better in measured performance.

    Can someone test it?

Correction: I was wrong. THe fan on the Zepto has been on since I booted it up and it's audible over the giant monster fan of the Novatech which is cooling a clawhammer Athlon 64.

The Toshiba and IBM are quiet by comparison.

Another first impression: The touchpad is not as sensitive as I am used to. It requires a heavy finger!

The solution is to go to your BIOS and load the default settings! Seriously!!

I will do that! If you can give me a download-link of the software!? I don't know which one I need!?

The DDR2-800 was supposed to have better timings, but that seems false aswell, or?

Sandra is here. The Lite version should do the benchmarking.

Yes. Atleast CPUz shows the same timing as standard PC5300 DDR2.

    Moon Angel,

The solution to the loud fan seems to be in the BIOS. You need to turn DTS calibration ---> OFF.

The Zepto seems to have three cooling modes: Fan Off, Fan Low and Fan High. From what I have seen so far the fan kicks into low mode at 55 degrees, and high mode at 75 degrees. With DTS calibration ON the sensor seems to think that the CPU is permanently in the high 70s and in the low 80s under load.

However once I turned DTS calibration OFF I got a more believable 55 degrees under no load and about 75 degrees when pushed. This means that the fan will stay on low almost all the time under normal use, but will be in the louder high speed when you are gaming.

NB. I am not an expert. This solution came from zeptoforum and has seemed to work for me. All BIOS modifications at your own risk etc.

Thanks for that result. I was quite impressed by the memory result for the Q70 (it uses standard Samsung 5-5-5-15 modules) since the best previous result I had personally measured has been around 3300MB/s with the 845PM chipset.

It would appear that the only benefit of buying 800MHz RAM is to have modules read to put into a compatible machine in the future. Otherwise 800MHz RAM seems to be a dubious investment if it costs more. But maybe someone will bring out 800MHz notebook RAM which runs at CL=4 at 667MHz, in which case we can hope to see the bandwidth go up.

    Your Welcome

Zepto only uses 1GB 800MHz modules, so it's in the price :D
Now I'm running on 2 x 1GB 800MHz modules (but they are working at 667MHz)
I've looked for 2GB 800MHz modules, but they don't exist, so if I want to upgrade to 2 x 2GB 667MHz I have to pay about 170 euro! I could sell my 2 x 1GB 800MHz modules for about 70 euro, so 4GB RAM, would cost me about 100 euro!!

Im sorry, but that's just not true. Did you try and configure the value model? They are there. I know, I ordered it. And the 667mhz are considerably cheaper than the 800mhz.

It was true for a while. Zepto removed the 667mhz ones from the German and UK shop. People complained and they are back now.

    My excuses!
I thought it was only 800MHz because on the Dutch site ( www.zepto.nl)
you allways have 800MHz in your laptop! Even in the value-models!

First 3dmark06 result: 3287. That's on par with an MRX1900 and nicely above a geforce go 7600.

Possibly, but official reviews are usually left to admins or moderators. It'll be useful to compare your thoughts, benchmarks and game performance with mine.

Yes I saw it! On tweakers.net everybody is allowed to write reviews, but there we don't speak of 'official' and 'unofficial' reviews, so that's a difference!

This is a real site for reviews, tweakers.net isn't!

Yes that's 100% true! I'm really looking forward to it!

    Thank you :D

    Yes.

No tasters, I will say it is honest and entirely unlike the user reviews thus far which have been rather fanboyish.

If you want to know how uber 1337 the gaming is I'd say try a user review. Mine does cover gaming and benchmarks but is much more about the machine as a whole and what it is like to use and live with as well.

No. It's just easier to be entirely objective when the machine in question is not your own bought by your own hard earned. I believe I cover the good and the bad accurately.

Exactly. This was sent to me by Zepto for me to review and now it's being sent back. I'll be receiving a 6625WD for review soon in the same fashion. I did of course ask if I could keep the machine but unfortunately not.

Interestingly moderator John Ratsey just received his 6024W, the same as the 6224W but with integrated Intel X3100 graphics instead of the 8600M GT and has had similar observations about the machine as a whole.

    (i) She had already done a review of her own notebook and (ii) it was a European company who were wanting a review done, so it made sense to ask known reviewers who lived in Europe.

I do work for Zepto, and I have never tried to hide that as most of people like it. I think I have been emailing you as well but I wont guess your name on here as I could be wrong. I try and be quite informal on here as much as I can as I dont think people want to read the forum as if it was a business email, I am English but live in Copenhagen now. We have other people from Zepto that post on here as well. If people ask a question then I can sometimes get it answered really quickly but if you are discussing things that you are happy or unhappy with then sometimes I really cant comment as obviously I would seem Bias....We use ideas or suggestions from customers in our plans as well. John Ratsey brought a notebook recently and has come up with some really good suggestions which we can act upon to make things easier for others
