My (until now) trusty 6224W has suddenly refused to load Vista. It seems to start loading for a short while before hitting a BSOD. The same happens if I try booting in safe mode or from the installation DVD. It did manage to load the memory diagnostic tool on the installation DVD and having run a single pass has detected no memory errors. I am using the z14005e BIOS which I have now reset to default settings.

Any suggestions what to do next please?

Scan the harddrive for errors. If there is no problems with that either, then try to format and reinstall the OS.

First, I would be tempted to reset the BIOS in case this is the cause. You may then need to reenable AHCI (if you are using Turbo Memory). I also disable the TPM. We know that there are still some bugs in the current BIOS.

Next, get one of the Linux live CDs (eg Ubuntu) and see if that will load and run. I believe the CD also includes a memory checking utility.

disable/enable wifi, some owners have had problems with that.

test to start the laptop up, wait for it to come to the vista screen (or 2 sec before that) and hold the power button to do a "Unexpected shutdown"

    Hi all,
Thanks for the help. The stop code is C1F5 and I get it when trying to boot from the HDD and Vista installation DVD. I can boot with the Ultimate Boot CD but none of the HDD utilities seem to work. Memory test appears fine. I wonder if it's something to do with the HDD contoller or the drive itself????

Well theres a big chance that the hdd is faulty. You have any chance to test the hdd in some other computer?
