    I’ve got the weirdest problem.

I share a studio with a friend where we've installed wireless internet.

We're using the ordinary cable router that came from the ISP and a wireless access point.

Whenever I'm alone in the studio I have zero or very few problems.

BUT as soon as my friend shows up with his laptop hell brakes loose! It's impossible for me to keep the wireless connection. He's fine however!

As soon as he splits, everything’s back to normal.

Now how's that for a strange problem.

I've checked the IP overview in the router and everyone using the access point have got their own IP – no sharing. He and I are the only one using the wireless access point. We have a cable running to out neighbor and a HD with FTP access connected via cable as well.

    Hmmmmmmmmmm...

Oh - and I have zero problems at home, sharing a wireless connection with my girlfriend.

    Help is MUCH appreciated.

Have you tried with another wireless access point or taking you friend home and see what happens there?

You could try and use a specified ip address for each of the users, connected to their computers mac-address, so that you always get the same ip number when getting on the wireless.

I tried giving myself a fixed IP with no change. I could try every user of course. I'll try that first. My thought was something IP related as well.

Has your friend recently spent any time at groom lake near area 51?

I have seen some strange modems that only support one wireless connection at a time and will give precedent over one connection to another.

Is the WLAN AP on a non overlapping channel? If not, change it to one of them, the non overlapping wireless channels are 1, 6 and 11.
