I have had my 6324 for a month now. Overall i like it, like the keyboard and the slim design. Dont like the white lights that can be seen behind the lid in dark. But it was very cheap compared to what i should have payed to get the same specifications at Dell for instance. I bought it at a danish reseller for 7.950 kr, which is about 1.462 $.

Even though it was very cheap, id still very much like it to be stable, and the laptop has made me nervous with 3 random shutdowns, no warning or blue screen, just power out, screen goes black and i have to press the power button to turn it on again. All three times the power cord has been plugged. It has also 2 or 3 times gone into standby mode, even though i am certain i didnt press any key related to standby when it happened.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks, Jakob.

I don't recognise these specific problems. I've had a few mysterious crashes but nothing which shows a consistent pattern and, until some pattern it identified, it is difficult to identify the cause.

Which BIOS version are you using? How is the temperature (what is reported by RMclock on monitoring mode, how does the temperature actually feel).

Vista (if you are using it) is not completely bug-free. This link contains a couple of patches for various bugs.

Only time I've noticed bluescreens and shutdowns is when I've been using bluetooth or had bluetooth enabled.

#2 --> I use bios z14005e (the latest). Will try to download RMclock now to see what it shows. I am using windows xp sp2.

#3 --> That is another issue i have, my laptop was supposed to be configured with bluetooth internal, but it doesnt seem to be there, even though several bluetooth devices shows up in the device manager.

#2 --> RMClock shows 48-49 degrees celcius on both cores when browsing some windows, and having a large program loaded. CPU load is about 50% or above on average. Is this temperature normal? - My CPU VID shows 1,05V.

My Bluetooth works fine but it is not switched on by default (use Fn+F10 to toggle Bluetooth). The wireless indicator light is purple when Bluetooth is on. Did you install and run the BlueSoleil software?

A temperature of around 49C is in the right range so it means you don't have any thermal problem.

As a matter of interest, I had a spontaneous reboot a couple of hours ago. This was also under XP SP2 (and Bluetooth was off). I will have to watch with interest. The event log thinks I pressed Ctrl-Alt-Delete, but I was browsing a web page.

#6 -> Ah, yes it turned on alright when pressing FN + F10. I will watch the event log if it does the same trick again. How do you do that exactly?

The event log is to be found under Computer management > Event viewer. The system log is the one containing system events.

However, a sudden reboot doesn't give much opportunity to create a log, which does raise the suspicion that the fault is at a low level.

I've had 2 shutdowns behaving exactly like yours. I have a 6214W. I'm going to send it in to zepto as soon as I can live without it :)

I've had two BSODs (STOP 0x000000124) today with my 6024W and then, just now, I've had the sudden power down as described at the start of this thread. One moment I was working, the next everything was off. It all happened far too quickly for Vista to register a fault. This is using Vista. If there are more problems I'll switch to XP and see what happens. However, while BSODs can be caused by software / drivers, a sudden power off must be hardware or BIOS.

    John

PS: There was also an interesting battery problem earlier today: There was a short power cut and the battery dropped to just below 95%. when the power came on the battery gauge said 100% and no charging. I unplugged and the charge immediately dropped to 94.something. I did this a couple of times before leaving it on battery for a couple of minutes. When plugged into power from 93% the system decided to start recharging. So there's clearly another bug here.

Yesterday I switched over to XP. On Monday I had another BSOD and yesterday my 6024W had an unexpected shutdown (I wasn't around when it went off to see what happened).

This should help identify whether the underlying problem is hardware / BIOS or Vista / drivers / software provided I can keep running XP (I don't have a full set of software set up).

My 6024W managed to get from Wednesday to Sunday running XP + hibernation. Then yesterday I had the freeze and shutdown (no BSOD). This points to a BIOS (I'm running 0005e) or hardware problem.

I am reluctant to downgrade the BIOS since the earlier versions gave me other annoyances, but I guess this has to be the next step since 0005e is no longer recommended for the 6024W.

    Just to update this thread.

I disabled RMClock and ran for 10 days without BSOD or crash so this points to RMClock (which is not yet fully compatible with Santa Rosa). As suggested in this thread, I am now trying RMClock without the "Enter C4 on C3 command" setting.
