    Hi,

The touchpad on my 6324W is currently completely unusable. The problem is that the left button is always registered as being pressed down (according to the animated touchpad icon in the bottom right of my desktop), which means I cant use the touchpad to left click (even tap clicking won't work). I've tried reinstalling the driver to no avail. Any ideas? I think I might need to open up the case to check it isn't actually pressed in, so how would I do that?

    Thanks in advance

This does look like a mechanical problem with the button. Does the button still move and click when it is pressed?

However, in case the driver settings have got corrupted (they may not get reset by reinstalling the driver) I would suggest you reset to the default values (right-click on icon > Pointing device properties > Device Settings > Settings > Defaults). If you have a mouse also connected, make sure you select the Touch pad on the properties menu.

I doubt if you can get to the underside of the button by opening up the computer. If there is a problem then it may need a new palmrest unit.

The button looks and feels in perfect working order. As for restoring the default settings to the touchpad, it made no difference :(
Thanks for helping though. Anyone got any other ideas? I might just buy a Mogo Mouse X54 to use instead of the touchpad...

Are you still covered by Zepto's warranty?

Perhaps their support people can think of other suggestions to confirm it is a hardware and not a software problem, after which the computer should go back to them to be repaired.

The problem is that I would have to pay for P&P to send it back to Denmark which will cost £40. Does anyone have any other ideas or will I just have to put up with it?

My understanding is that the standard Zepto warranty is pick-up and return. ie Zepto pays the carriage both ways. Did you get something non-standard?

Yep, I saved £100 on my zepto by deleting the '12 month pick up and return policy' from the order after finding out this was independant of the warranty. I do still have the warranty but I felt I didn't need the pick up and return policy since it was so much more expensive and I would have to use it twice to make it worthwhile. (I wonder if it was a coincidence that zepto changed their ordering system so that you can't delete separate components or service from a laptop order a week after I bought mine? )

My order got "held up" because I tried to delete that option too. I ended up having to buy the extra warranty. But it only bumped my price up by £60.

Maybe I was lucky, I got the same specs as you but with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo
and XP for £620 (with free case :D ) I was so chuffed. And to think I was about to buy a far inferior dell or £200 more...

But more importantly can anyone help me with my touchpad problem?

Are you using Zepto's drivers or the ones available from synaptics? have you tried the "older" drivers from zepto?
Oh and I paid 477 for mine!!!!!!!

Amazing price you got on yours! It still costs £600 for the most basic one. I feel zepto give in to easily if you try and negotiate on price, but i'm not complaining. Their service is worth the price alone. I got a reply to an email I sent at 7am this morning within a minute. It takes Sony two weeks!

As for the drivers I tried both the new and old zeptos ones, which are the same as the ones I found on synaptics site. I hink its more likely to be a hardware problem...

Yer, zeptos offers are great. I find when they have one of those countdowns on I keep checking beack on their site to see what the deal is!

As for my touchpad, I've disabled the left button so I can now 'tap to click' but does anyone know how to open the casing so I can try to unstick the button if that is problem?

On the bottom there are a lot of screws. I haven't done this as I've only needed to get to the GPU, but I think that if you unscrew all of the larger ones-including those hidden in the memory compartment, you should be able to gently prise the covers apart. Don't forget that you will have to remove the screen as well before you try to prise the palm rest off. I've taken a lot of different laptops to peices in the past (guess what I do for a living!!) and most of them run down this route. Trial and error I'm afraid unless anyone else has the experiense of taking one of these to bits.
edit: You might not have to remove the screen after all. there are two small screws (one at each end) that look like they hold the palm rest on at the rear.
